Estring -> And The Winner Is: Blu Ray! (2/19/2008 8:26:46 AM)

After purchasing a Toshiba HD player a couple of weeks ago, I get the good news that Toshiba is bowing out of the HD war and giving the victory to Blu Ray.
I am not a big movie purchaser, I rent more than buy. So when Net Flix decided to go Blu Ray, that pretty much screwed me for watching HD dvds.
Just as the VHS and Beta battle years ago, I am not sure that the best format has won.
I guess the good news is that there should be a bunch of HD movies that will now be very cheap to purchase.

Or the prices will go way up because they are now 'collectibles'...[:D]

Although I never bought an HD DVD (thank goodness) I do still have a laser disk (if anyone remembers those).

Heh, it was bound to happen eventually, although HD-DVD dying came a bit faster than I (and probably most people) expected.

It's good news for the PS3 though, more PS3 sales since Blu-ray is the dominant format, and then more PS3 sales means more games made for the PS3, which is good for me. =)

Woo.

It still has to beat DVD. Blue-Ray still feels like a betamax.

I'm still on CD\VHS\DVD\AVI\MP3\Ogg\Ape and don't care what happens.

Has anyone thought that they'd be better off without television?

Nah... didn't think so either [:D] .

I watch one show a week - House - and some movies via DVD. I average under 1 hour a day.

There's no need to go to extremes...

One of the benefits to being a "mu adapter" versus an "alpha" or "beta" adapter.

I don't know what the difference is, and I could care less.  I just want to be able to rent or buy a movie, and know the fucker will work in my player at home.  It was easy with beta and VHS.  They made them in different sizes.  These asshole technojerkoffs want to show each other who has the biggest dick, and we all have to suffer for it.

So true, and such a hilarious way of putting it. Thank you :-) .

I still like going for an old fashioned night at the movies...remember when! LOL

I don't know if I'd call anyone concerned with the Post-DVD Format Wars "techno"- ANYTHING....

I think that in the future we'll be downloading things stored on servers elsewhere - we won't keep a thing. You'll buy the rights to something, a movie or a song, and those rights will be kept in the virtual book of records at amazon.walmart.com, and when you want to access it you push a few buttons on your remote/phone/credit card gizmo, and enjoy.

The writing was on the wall for HD-DVD, Walmart & Best Buy stopped carrying them 2 months ago. Blockbuster was only buying & renting Blu~Ray, and Netflix has followed suit.

CLV (but played the standard play disk as well).  The only disks that still work are "Blade Runner" and "Apocolypse Now."  Makes me laugh to think about it now.
