I read in the Hite report that some Women masturbate in public. One would do it the in the bus (without actually using her hand), another one used to do it at church, and would cover her orgasm coughing... So I'm curious to know how common it is : do you practise masturbation in public ? I'm only asking Women, because for men it's kind of tricky to masturbate with other people in the same room. Actually, a friend of mine had some crazy kid in his class when he was around 12 who used to masturbate in the back of the classroom, just behind girls...but I hope that's unusual...

I should have thought earlier about the possibility I just added : "I just don't know how to do that !". Many Women may even think that it's just impossible to achieve orgasm without using their hand, just squeezing the hips. Well, in The New Hite Report, it's called type IV masturbation (type V is the use of hot water...). Anyway, 12% of the Women who answered the question had some experience of type IV masturbation. So I was curious to know more about that. Oh well...

I'm not sure they are as significant as Shere Hite's yet... I'm very surprised to see so many answers "I did, a few times", especially because I didn't think so many women could practice type IV masturbation... And I'm not sure how to interpret those answers : do they all mean it's something they did as little girls and stopped doing because grown ups don't do these things, or what. It would have been interesting to know when it happens : at school, was it during boring class, or was it due to excitement ? I laughed at the 'on the bus' one. I used to ride the Spokane public buses all the time and something about the pounding i took from the bumpy ride really turned me on. I always used the IV, look ma no hands approach. I once read how to do that where you envision a 'ring of fire'. That was interesting. There were classes even. My parents had an armchair that when I put my feet onto the ottoman, squeezed just the right muscle abdominally and if I held it for a few minutes I'd come. It's interesting to compare a man's desire, which can be satisfied purely mechanically but has to be satisfied regularly, and a woman's desire, which in many cases doesn't have to be satisfied so often but can be satisfied in some cases with almost no mechanical stimulus. It's also interesting to see that female sexuality is so complex that not only many women ignore the existence of their clitoris (many until they're adult), but also that you take classes or read books to learn masturbation ! In fact, I believe we're males' sexuality is just as complex, but we often fail to explore it fully because we can obtain some satisfaction mechanically. Btw, is "type IV" a common name that you heard before ? I thought that only Shere Hite called it like this.

I'd not heard of this title before, no. The classes were strictly about this type of masturbation mind you. However, im sure there are such classes available somehow somewhere (but wouldn't be interested in taking them). It is quite interesting that women don't know, or are taught early on, about the clit and for men things like the prostate gland. Perhaps we're underestimating male masturbation. I once had a lover who'd fucked everything from his numb 'asleep' hand to a roll of prime rib (that was still warm). While he did prefer the feel of mechanical, he was also well versed in the other and claimed to have many 'dry' orgasms with no ejaculate. I've also seen a lot of men who were fascinated by kama sutra and cunnilingus workshops. Women on the 'hand' as it were seem to fail to explore masturbation with objects outside of vibrators. Vibrators, to me anyways, are the biggest waste of money and time under the sexual sun. We shape them like penises, make them shake rattle and roll (not much else) and try to get off on a buzzing sensation that either numbs us completely or not enough. I'm not sure if this counts, but I love masturbating in a fairly empty public place. No one there at the start, but if someone comes into view I won't always stop. As a child I had no qualms masturbating and it seems a shame that guilt etc makes it wrong. I particularly love doing it in the countryside - forest, hill, beach.. Maybe it the romantic in me.
