bipolarber -> So, we bombed Pakistan... (2/19/2008 7:13:36 PM)

I read a small blurb on MSNBC today, stating that we apparently bombed Pakistan on President's day. A Predator released two hellfire missiles onto a small house, killing (we hope) a higher up in Al Queida... The government of Pakistan was informed after, in order to keep the targets from being tipped off. (as they have been, repeatedly, in the past.)

Obviously, the US government thinks Mucharrif (sp?) is on his way out, and they took the opportunity to do an end run around him and his military.

Bipolar, I think it's to be expected that wherever al qeada pops up it's head they'll be blown to bits.
If they locate them in downtown Cleveland fuck the cops, I want hellfire missiles!

Okay .... imagine this ..... if tonight, while we're all asleep, aliens from outerspace landed on earth and completely sucked Pakistan off the planet ..... gone, goodbye, missing .......

Tomorrow when the alarm clock went off and we all got out of bed ..... would anyone even notice Pakistan was missing ? Would anyone even care ?

I hate to break it to you, but they have been doing this for quite some time.  I am fairly confident that we have covert operations going on in Pakistan as we speak.  It's not new, and every President before Bush authorized things like that.

I thought one of Obama's campaing promises was that he was going to attack al Queda in Pakistan since Bush wont.

Zensee -> RE: So, we bombed Pakistan... (2/19/2008 10:04:20 PM)

But isn't al Queda in Iraq guarding Sadam's WMDs?

luckydog1 -> RE: So, we bombed Pakistan... (2/19/2008 10:09:45 PM)

ahhhh so we divert into sillyness....Can't allow talk about Obamas promises.....Must make joke....WMD...Lie...Facist....The thread must be derailed at all costs.  After all, If Castro is willing to torture people to oppose Bush, are you doing your share?

And don't go "Alan Alda" on me.

Zensee -> RE: So, we bombed Pakistan... (2/19/2008 10:29:59 PM)

Popeye - why would anyone wish a country to disappear? That's the question, not why it would be missed.

lucky - still sore are you? Look up, I think nameonhold gets the prize for hijacking here. And considering the tragic absurdity of Bush's war on terrerr my comment is pretty bland (but relevent).

Fidel Castro is definitely off topic though but I am sure you are ready to go 6 pages denying that. Knock yourself out.

luckydog1 -> RE: So, we bombed Pakistan... (2/20/2008 12:57:52 AM)

I guess, you don't want to talk about Obama promising to do the same thing...thats ok it is understandable why.

Zensee -> RE: So, we bombed Pakistan... (2/20/2008 2:13:28 AM)

It is completely understandable, lucky, because Obama is not the topic of this thread. I was just making a snide aside. You should try them some time - I think you'd be good at it.

But if you insist on my opinion about Obama I can offer it. (You know I'm free with those. )

Whoever becomes President has a real mess on their hands and Pakistan is a puzzle and a half in itself. That said I am disappointed by his "tough talk" and promise to act unilaterally in a foreign, sovereign, allied nation (albeit one run by a criminal dictator under the Whitehouse Seal of Approval). Whether Obama means it or if it is just posturing to get elected, I don't know. He's as much a politician as the rest of the suspects.

The strategy of policing terrorists with uniformed forces is ill advised. But then his hand is forced, to a large degree, because he is inheriting someone else's mistakes - so he'll have to make the best of it. If I had his ear I'd say, get out of Iraq and consolidate with the rest of NATO (as originally agreed) in Afghanistan. Fight al Qeda by being more devious than they are (infiltration, deception, psy ops, disruption, the usual spook stock in trade). The overt war was always a bad idea but Bush just had to have his Mission Accomplished moment.

Surprise! surprise!

One day we will really be surprised and an American President will really believe in civilised standards and the rule of law...until then, keep the folks back home happy by letting them think action is being taken to protect them.

Jeez, this is bombing for PR.

joanus -> RE: So, we bombed Pakistan... (2/20/2008 5:37:43 AM)

Isn't that how America celebrates? Bomb some poor country to hell and back?

Now how does that joke go?

War is god's way of teaching Americans geography.
