RiotGirl -> Alpha Males? (9/16/2005 3:42:39 PM)

In a discussion.. and we're discussing boy and girl points of view. Girls want one to one (majority) and men like to have many (generally) Obviously its not true of all.. yadda yadda yadda.. exceptions.. the disclaimer goes on.

My friend says it goes back to evolution. One man - many ladies.. lots of babies.. survival of the blood line.. and Women like alpha males. Strongest, most fit for their bloodlines... Tends to be that way in the animal kingdom as well.

Generally, i DO find that men tend to want "many" more often then the women i find. i'm curious as to why this is. Is it really evolution?

more disclaiming.. obviously this is a generalization.. not everyone fits.. yadda yadda.. and not everyone will find what i say true in their life.. or experience. Thats fine.. but FOR THOSE WHO DO FIND IT MORE OFTEN TRUE THEN NOT.. why do you think this is?

In my experience, I find equal amounts of men and women who want to be monogamous and polygamous. I don't personally think it's a gender thing.

More men SAY they want it. More women than men can actually HANDLE it. My observation; nothing more.

I agree with Lady Angelika. I have found that men and women enjoy the poly lifestyle. Although, I am not poly, many of my friends are. I am not a jealous person, but I do like undivided attention. I have seen some work and some not..It all depends on the individuals..

Ditto- I honestly don't see a gender majority on single versus multiple partners.

i dont have any sientific data for or gaisnt, but i would actualy balive it might actualy be like the OP sugests.

I don't think "scientific data" would answer the question even if you could find them, because people's sexual preferences are profoundly influenced by culture, and our mainstream culture, for better or for worse, holds that men are more likely to want several sex partners, and women more likely to want one.

At other times, in other places, and in other cultures, that has not been regarded as the norm.

I think that in "general" like it has been said, men "want" more partners but usually fall a little short in being able to actually handle the situation (present company excluded of course) I make no attempt to understand or explain the female mind so I will leave it at that. LOL

There 's avery good book on this subject called "Sperm Wars".

I see, I want, I usually get! It would be much easier in the days of yor when you could use force to remove male opposition though. The thing is to know what you want and if the price is worth it... less than 1% of females I see meet the criteria and I'm married to such a one (she rates as the .001% of females I have ever met ~ like the one in a trillion) However knowing that you can have someone if you want to take her, is not the same as actually making the necessary moves to get her. It's mostly an acedemic exercise anyway.

100% agreement! It often sounds like a good idea, but in practice, it isn't so easy to deal with. The idea of a "stable" of women is glamorized, but to realistically put into practice is not nearly as simple. I'm sure that the many people on this site that have relationships with multiple women would agree.

Hell, I have a hard enough time with the ONE i've got!

I'm thinking that's a maturity issue rather than a gender issue

firefighteremt -> RE: Alpha Males? (9/19/2005 11:14:12 AM)

I don't think it has anything to do with maturity. I think its just what you as an individual want out of your life. I think its fairly = between men and women. I see a lot of men and women on both sides of that fence. When I am single I date a lot because its a numbers game to me. If I want to hit a home run its nice to have pitches coming to me 1 right after another rather than a large deal of time in between. After I find a good match I stick with just her.
