I wrote this as a response to a question on my profile:

The 1950s household, the Leave It To Beaver era if you will, was perceived at the perfect era. Two kids, parents and a dog. However, the mother was always the one doing all the work, pleasing, getting none of the credit. I think that's bullshit. (pardon my strong language)

I am more than willing to be the "housewife". I am willing to submit my traditional "man" role. That doesn't mean I want to be a butler, or a slave, it just means Im willing to take on the "mother" role as sort of a testament to those that served and got little to no credit. I would like to have a little more equality, if possible, but I'm not exactly sure on the technicalities. I have no problem serving, just knowing that I'm loved and it's a RELATIONSHIP, and not servitude...

...I'm rambling haha

I'm a male neo-feminist, I guess haha

I have more to say on it, but Id have to think it out.

But that's just it, June Cleaver was like a butler or a slave!  That's why we like the 50's household thing...it's all about TPE!  Add role-reversal to the mix and ya have a lovely little FemDom relationship!  Yummie!!!

IMHO,

Thank you, Miss. I guess what I meant by servitude was a "do-it-or-else" mentality. I saw that lifestyle, as untrue as it may have been, as depicting as the "wife" saying, "I'm gladly doing this because I care for you/want to".  I know the real-life situation was far less fair to women, which disgusts me to my core, but there is something about that studio-created utopia that makes me smile.  A boy can -- and will -- dream!

Although, I've only experienced the Leave-it-to-Beaver life through TV Land :P

I grew up in a 1950's household because my Mother wanted it, my Father tried to bring her into reality but she'd have none of it. Your right it was a thankless oppressive era for many women and yet today so many women who never experienced it want to try it or are doing it and love it. /shrugs to each their own.

However yes a femdom relationship 1950's style can certainly be done. If I could afford it with my sub we'd be doing it right now, but alas he must work as he has bills that I refuse to pay. But maybe once those are paid for, I just may tell him to don his apron and pearls and get into the kitchen where he belongs.

Hhhhmmmm.... I don't get that at all from the tv shows. Her husband is always talking to her about his day, her day, the kids, they are always making decisions together.

I think we idealize that show but when I've seen episodes, they were constantly in reruns when I was growing up, I never felt she was less a partner than him, just a different role.

I could look at my mother who was stay at home from that time through me and see just how much power she had in the house. My father may have looked to the rest of the world like he was the authority but damn my mother really ran things and tried to make herself a martyr at the same time.

I would agree.  The division of labor in the stereotypical television househgold from the 1950's was heavily gendered, but it was not usually depicted as abusive unless you got into the realm of comedy that was specifically about "bad" relationships--Lucy and Ricky Ricardo, the Honeymooners, etc.  Even in the worst case scenarios, you never showed the husband actually hitting a wife to make her perform her duties...and when threats were made, the woman tended to return them in kind.

I would agree, as well.  I used the terms 'butler and slave' because the OP did; he said "I am more than willing to be the "housewife". I am willing to submit my traditional "man" role. That doesn't mean I want to be a butler, or a slave..."

I was raised in the 50's, too and what I remember was not so much abuse or slavery, but that, as you said, work and household responsibility was heavily gendered.  Bye and large, regardless if the woman worked outside the home or not, she was also responsible for laundry, house cleaning, cooking, shopping; all the domestic stuff (IE:  butler).

Isn't that were the saying "A man may work from sun to sun, but a woman's work is never done'?  Sounds even slavish to me...though I'm speaking tongue-in-cheek.

I have a FemDomme marriage...
Both of us work...from home so it makes it easier...
We both do our share of cleaning...he cooks...we both manage the kids...
I'd say he has definately given up his traditional role...
and we both love it...

It's my ideal. Just remember that it's a lot harder to do today, since living on one income is harder.  Really just jumping in on it. Plus in some ways it's becoming more common. There are a lot more house husbands and stay at home dads now a days.
