Slush/ice here, some schools were closed.  It was a good excuse to borrow my mom's SUV.

The majority of all the school systems in my area {Northern Virginia, Maryland} were
closed.

We don't get snow days at work and are only off for the 5 major US holidays-- Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Day, New Years Day, Memorial Day and Labor Day.

The schools in my area were open. Last week the kids had 3 days off due to the weather, though.

I just hope my mom doesn't have to get a hotel room in Baltimore overnight since she has to work.

And no, I didn't get Monday or today off.

Curses on all who cannot work from home. Snow and ice could be up to my neck and as long as I've got my cable up, phone and broadband, and power I'm expected to put in a full day. Of course I am the companies Intarweb activity monitor so I have some leeway in what I do.;)

The east coast is getting the kind of crap we got here in the midwest earlier this week, I drove through it Monday morning........took 2 hours to get to work. Then left early and drove 2 hours back home. Got my 4wheel drive stuck in a 3 foot drift in the lane. Spent several hours getting the truck out of the drift and into the garage. Sat at home on Tuesday waiting for someone to come plow out the lane....never showed......snow plow broken. Went back out and dug some more so I could get the truck out on Wednesday. More going 30-40 on icy roads, two hours each way.

We have had so much snow and ice this year that everyone is running out of salt, sand and money for more. Plows are breaking down so fast they cannot keep them repaired and running. Our roads have been dangerous all week.

Fortunately we are going to have a few days of warmer weather to melt it a little. Of course that means more ice from the melting.......

I am ready for spring.

Here in Western New York we’re always keeping an eye on the Mid-West’s weather because we usually get it a few days later.

Yes, but such experiences are part of what makes walking into your warm house – your home – so much more meaningful.

Although New York State does a good job of keeping the Routes under its care well plowed the same can’t be said for some of the local governments. In my city there are side streets that never get plowed. A common joke is that, contrary to popular belief, the city does have a snow removal plan – it’s called Spring.

quote:

I am ready for spring.

Although Winter is not without it’s charms, it’s own serene beauty, I confess that by the end of February I have had my fill. I am so ready for Spring. Alas, I will patiently endure the twenty degree weather and the slippery pavement, confident that it is only a matter of weeks before that first day when the temp shoots up to fifty-five and I can throw open all the windows. People who live in warmer climes may have an easier time of it dealing with their "winter," but they will never truly understand the glory that is Spring.

P.S. In all fairness, our new Mayor has been doing a better job of it than his predecessors – the last few years the sides streets have been getting occasionally plowed.

I didn't work on President's Day, but I had to work today.  We don't get snowed in here except for once a decade maybe.  That's okay though, y'all can have your snow.

The emergency rooms really tend to fill up with people that have
broken all types of body parts, by slipping on the ice.

I don't blame you!
Spring is around the corner!

I haven't been snowed in yet...but I'm still trying to figure out a good reason to spend more than 4 hours at work.

(So far I haven't come up with a good reason to spend more however).

Well, with all the new technology, most of us can do a lot of work from home.

I bring plenty of work home all the time, but I would rather do it here at my own pace,
then at work!
I wish I could totally work from home, I would do most of my work at night!

No to getting Presidents Day off :(
Yeah to no snow!  :-) It's 78 right now.

Mz Mia:  I lived over 5 years right outside Staunton in the mountains there so I am so familiar with late winter in Virginia!  Pretty snow....until your car goes into the culvert which you can't see for the drifts.  And spring is gorgeous....unless you lose a shoe in the inches of mud left from all the snowmelt.  Still a pretty place at certain times of the year.
