LONDON - Lawyers released evidence Friday that they say shows British soldiers may have tortured and executed up to 20 Iraqis after a battle in 2004 — the most serious allegations of abuse made against British forces in Iraq.

Attorneys for five Iraqi men detained by British troops after the battle say witness testimony, death certificates and video footage of mutilated bodies all support the claims. They are demanding a public inquiry.

The British military strongly denies the accusations, and says the dead were insurgents killed in a gun battle after ambushing British troops.

There has been no evidence shown here in the UK as far as i am aware. The fact there was a bayonet charge shows how bloody the fighting was. The authorities will investigate and time will tell how true this is. So far i dont think one claim against British forces has been upheld.

Reading about the bayonet charge surprised me, ps; had me picturing Sgt York in my head.

Horrible things happen in war, but I hope the Brits are innocent of this.

The bayonet charge was probably due to the lack of supplies, similar to Obamas story.

Being serious for a bit, i think the country as a whole will be horrified if this is true. It could signal a complete change to any support the government have for this.

"After a battle."
Oh, so they hiked up a flag that said, "Battle Over!" ?
Wow! Now the enemy get "Attourneys?"

Imagine sixty five years ago seeing the same headlines; "Attourneys for the 5 NAZIS said their clients were abused by the British Troops after they were observed gassing Jews!"
This whole thing is getting rediculous!

Popeye surely the battle is over if one side is defeated, regardless of any flag waving.

Polite Sub, no no no no no!
We need *ATTOURNEYS* to decide when the battle is over, not mere Soldiers!
