Does anyone know where to find any laws pertaining to sexual practices or bdsm in Iowa?

I'm not being snarky - just wondered if you've issued any google searches?  I'd focus on results that come from ".gov" sites...

thanks for the disclaimer   yes I have done some searches but it's hard to find the time to wade through everything.   I guess I was hoping for a shortcut to what I need

I don't know if you have a specific area of sex laws in mind..  Below is a google search that yielded only (!) 11.5K results.  You could probably narrow it a lot more with different keywords -- it's only searching .gov sites....

http://www.google.com/search?aq=f&num=100&complete=1&hl=en&lr=lang_en&newwindow=1&safe=off&as_qdr=all&q=sex+law+iowa+site%3A.gov&btnG=Search

The Nation’s laws and traditions in the past half century are most relevant here. They show an emerging awareness that liberty gives substantial protection to adult persons in deciding how to conduct their private lives in matters pertaining to sex...

...  Petitioners’ right to liberty under the Due Process Clause gives them the full right to engage in private conduct without government intervention.

It is not so much the laws them selves but who is the District Attorneys and Judges as well as the elected officials for your local city, county and state, but more then any thing who is the general public that will be on the grand jury when you are charged
Many laws on the books can be bent or read to mean many things.
If you are in a religious or hi political proper zone things can get twisted.
If you have never sat in a Grand Jury then you are missing a great insight to how the laws work for criminal justice. In fact a reality TV show called the grand jury would wake up many folks on the crazy way people get charged and then sent to trial.
DAs can drum up all sort of things to charge a "BDSM sex offender" with but are they ambitious to go after them at all. When they do will the grand jury buy into it.
example of grand jury and sillyness in way charges are done . any one with a rolled marijana cigarette can be charged with paraphenila and most every one is just to pile on, what is it that is considered paraphenila, lighters, what every the cig was in (purse, wallet, pants) and yes those are listed.
As for BDSM many counties have a law on detainment, kidnapping, detention confinement, assault, intent to do bodily harm, illegal use of handcuffs and many more that could be charged if want to. The law does not need to call it a sex crime. NOt to mention if you dress up as say a policeman or a doctor nurse, impersonating has been charged before, of if any medical devices are used, well you think of what that would be.

Sorry for the ramble, just go and do it keep it down low and watch your back as any given day at any given time there is likely some law they can use for you if some one gets a hard on for you,

A lot of people like to believe that what we are doing is mysterious, dangerous, illegal, and that somehow or another, 'the law' is going to get them. It adds a 'Sky is Falling' cachet that I don't personally buy into.

I prefer to know exactly where the lines are, and make my own decisions.
And as it stands, the government, from the top down, is supposed to stay out of our bedrooms, unless they have a damn good reason for being there.

As you correctly note, that 'damn good reason' can be trumped up, but I'm still not going to run scared.
