My mother has three large lavender beds in her garden which are divine and can be smelt from her kitchen window. Even though she's going to be 80 this year, she still sleeps with an old lavender coloured teddy I bought her on a previous Mother's Day, which is stuffed with dried lavender and has still retained its scent after all these years. The funny thing is that she talks to her teddy as if he were a live entity, she clears the fur out of his eyes in the mornings after saying 'good morning, lavender ted' (I've overheard her when I've stayed there the night lol) and the day she found my male cat humping her teddy I thought was going to see his willy joining his dearly departed testicles!

Lavender... I was born in Provence, and I was surrounded by lavender fields throughout my childhood... a carpet of blue flowers, the smell of lavender and the sound of crickets. Pure bliss.

That's odd as I just looked up hardy shrubs and lavender is listed as one of the hardiest. On the south coast of England, which is where I live, plants and trees take a bashing from the elements and sea spray in the air.

I ran a search for plants/shrubs people recommend for atlanta soil:

I adore Lavender.. when my beloved boykitty died, I planted a lavender plant on his grave.. but it seems that Georgia soil isnt good for lavender *sigh*

I love Zinnias too.

MissHarlet, if you've never seen it/smelt it/felt it, you owe it to yourself to take a trip to Provence :-) .

I have always said that If I ever got to go to France I wanted to go to the flower fields not to the winerys etc but to where they grow flowers for the perfumes .. now those may only exist in my mind lol but in my mind they are wonderous to behold ......

Down in Provence, you can do everything; lavender fields, wineries, gorgeous beaches on the shores of the Mediterranean, tiny villages up old mountains, gorgeous food... gasp. Nostalgia, nostalgia...

Provence: the French California. I know I'll get whacked for comparing the two lol.

She is certainly a character, Greedy! lol She's met many of my former subs/playtoys, and I never forget once when one of my former girlyboys (still a friend of mine) chauffeured my mother and I to the shops. We were walking around Marks and Sparks when she said something very cheeky to me and before I could react she turned around and with a well placed knee had him on his knees. "Watch your mouth, boy!" I've never been so embarrassed! Thankfully no one had seen her do this, only the boy on his knees and regretting his cheekiness... this was approx. 2.5 years ago!

I really like Gerbera Daisies.  They are so pretty and vibrant, just lovely.  I always said if I get married again, I'd like to carry a gorgeous bouquet of Gerbera daisies, all different colors...  lush and feminine.

Has your yorkie been 'done', MissHarlet? My cat has, yet that hasn't deterred him one jot from his carnal pleasures, which seem to be anything I either sit or lay upon, whether I'm still in/under them makes no difference to the randy little bugger!

Greedy, no wonder your mum has problems with such soil! Is crab grass that stuff which has roots that go on forever and it takes over just about anything?

KittinSol, when I retire I'd love to do so either in the South of France, or rural Italy. I've been to France many times and love the lazy way of life in rural areas, no shops open after a certain time, everything is done 'tomorrow' and going to the market can take all day, quite literally!

It is officially a weed ... and is soo hard to get rid of .. you have to pull it up from the roots and that isnt fool proof ..

Speaking of daisies, did any of you guys make daisy chains as children?

I remember seeing an abundance of daisies and buttercups spread over just about any plot of green, yet rarely see them now, occasionally the odd dandelion but rarely the other two I just mentioned.

I had my feet/hands henna'd some years ago, which I loved, then an anklet of daisies was given to me and it instantly carted me back to my days growing up where i'd sit with friends while we made daisy chains, giggling and seeing who was going to be the 'buttercup queen' lol

You're a hippie, MissMorrigan :-) ; perfect for Brighton. My friends and I used to spend our days making daisy chains on the hills of the South Downs (I was on campus at Sussex then).

I'm often referred to as 'that bohemian'

Occasionally, at the convent, I'd bunk off school with some friends and we'd go roaming on the south downs, picking blackberries.

Now I can't get that song, 'I wish I was a punkrocker with flowers in my hair' out of my head!
