ThunderRoad -> Six-count Florentine (2/24/2008 3:07:13 PM)

I've managed to get a four-count florentine flogging method down pat.  However, I've been struggling a lot with a six-count method.  Does anyone know any online primers or something - I need to see it in action or broken down I think because I can't wrap my brain around what I'm missing.

Plus, if I keep hitting myself, I'll probably knock whatever braincells I have left in my head out. :)

Archer -> RE: Six-count Florentine (2/24/2008 4:39:47 PM)

Two things that may help
Cross, Cross, Don't Cross, Cross Cross, Don't Cross

RH Palm down cross, LH palm up cross, RH around don't cross, LH palm down cross, RH palm up cross, LH around don't cross.

Face to face I can help much more than trying to communicate this online, but GA to WI kinda tough to arrange a face to face help time, LOL.

I am also very interested in this!

Are the starting positions the same as in four-count?  I'm afraid those directions didn't help me much.

ThunderRoad -> RE: Six-count Florentine (2/24/2008 5:21:48 PM)

Yea, that description isn't helping me either.  Sorry, bud.

LuckyAlbatross -> RE: Six-count Florentine (2/24/2008 5:40:54 PM)

Oddly enough I knew exactly what you were going for, but maybe it's because I follow the rhythms the same way I do when I sing a song or follow along with music.  Some notes you hit, some you rest.

So my suggestion would be put on a nice upbeat song that has the same beat/timing and try to get your hands to flow with that.  As well of course, I think seeing someone else do it from a few vantage points helps a lot.

ThunderRoad -> RE: Six-count Florentine (2/24/2008 5:46:07 PM)

Yea, I'm usually ok at following the rhythms, I'm just not sure of the descriptions.

Argh, it's driving me nuts :)

you can try 3/4 time, but you'll manage quicker if you count in 6/8/ time with the stronger beats on 1 and 4.

Have you checked youtube? If you go to http://www.youtube.com then put BDSM and FLORENTINE into the search box, it pulls 18 hits. I didn't watch them to see if any of them were of any help, but it couldn't hurt to try.

Weird, I get zero hits on youtube....

CalifChick -> RE: Six-count Florentine (2/24/2008 7:15:28 PM)

Sorry, I think the search terms I used must have been BDSM and flogging.  Try this

Archer -> RE: Six-count Florentine (2/24/2008 8:50:47 PM)

Starting possition is RH up flogger above shoulder height.LH accross body with floger under right elbow.
Basicly like numchucks being passed over the shoulder and grabbed under the arm.

Then it is RH down and across diagonal, followed by LH backhand motion also down and across, this leaves you in the possition of RH over LH both on your left side, then its a RH toss that does not cross the body but brings the RH around under the LH. This is now th LH mirror of the RH starting possition

Not sure this will he much either though since this is a very physical skill. Like trying to discribe the step by step of walking to someone who has never walked. LOL.

Actually, that helped quite a bit...I think I get the swing of it (pardon the pun).

Thanks!

Justme696 -> RE: Six-count Florentine (2/25/2008 3:57:56 AM)

What is the difference in effect on the target doing it like this..or do it "normally" ?

TotalState -> RE: Six-count Florentine (2/25/2008 4:27:57 AM)

Much more rapid blows, for one.  Good for 'light and fast' as opposed to 'heavy and slow'.

Also, it looks bloody cool.

Archer -> RE: Six-count Florentine (2/25/2008 5:31:09 AM)

Justme,

The 6 count always seems to be more fluid and has less of a "break" between the countsthan the 4 count. As to why florentine at all, its a way of maing the flogging flow and building a rythem that can assist in creating trance like subspace as well as Top headspace. You get a rythem going and then you add in what I like to call punctuation.
Well tried to do it with font size cahnges that didn't work so I'll try again with Bold.

Justme696 -> RE: Six-count Florentine (2/25/2008 7:52:46 AM)

Thank you for explaining, TotalState and Archer.
Are there any good links or so to this subject

Kirren -> RE: Six-count Florentine (2/25/2008 8:01:16 AM)

I think My question on this, since I am still finding a correct rhythm that I like best, would have to be...do you simply hit harder on the 6 count? and then lighter on the rest?

as in light x 5 and then harder on the 6?

The videos helped...but I want to be clear....pardon the analytical mind...

K.

ThunderRoad -> RE: Six-count Florentine (2/25/2008 8:04:53 AM)

I think the idea is, once you have the muscle-memory down, you can vary which beat you hit hard with to mix it up.  When I do a 4-count, I'll randomly chose which one might be a little harder easily.

The real key, whether it's a 1, 2, 3 or whatever count is that the rhythm is solid, in my opinion.  Timed to the music or whatever works.

Archer -> RE: Six-count Florentine (2/25/2008 8:21:34 AM)

Exactly once you have the pattern down the speed can be adjusted as can the heaviness of the blows, and variations in both are available, all while maintaining the pattern. It really is all about building the muscle memory.

I have no good links to describe it, I have taught it as a class successfully (at least the comments were possitive) but it's so much easier to teach this skill (like many other physical skills) face to face.

However you might find this and other patterns in Escrima, Kali, Arness, martial arts sites.

Sinwali, or 'flow' drills.
