SS&C aside, even before I began taking prescribed antidepressants, I didn't drink & scene. As a sub, it would dull my reactions, as a Domme, it would dull my focus. I did used to reward myself occasionally with a Black Russian after playing. I insist anyone I play with not drink alcohol or take nonprescription medications prior to playing. It is my personal choice.

I dont recommend drinking before a scene...especially if you are doing something that requires your full, undivided attention. (Fireplay, cuttings, breathplay, singletails, etc etc.) I have had a drink or two at dinner...then went home and played. No problems. My slave and I were both aware of the risks before we started playing..we felt comfortable in accepting those risks. Not something I would do on a regular basis...

i don't think that A/anyone should play while using alcohol. Alcohol can impair judgement and how would that be sane?

while i always tell folks they should be comfortable with what they do.. i will offer this up.. i know lots of folks who have a nightly drink or 2, and play.. to be honest..i would be much more worried, if they suddenly deprived their body of those drinks that they were accustomed to, simply to beat me..the body reacts in strange ways to deprivation.. think of all those coffee drinkers who get massive headaches when they stop drinking coffee.. would i want them beating me with coffee or without? i'm thinking DRINK THE COFFEE!..

i guess my point is.. that drinking and the use of recreational drugs is different for each person.. and the bigger question is how is this person once they have had a drink or a pull? Some folks just are not good players.. FOR ME>.. they may be fine for Betty Lou..but i wont play with them.. drunk, sober, whatever.... on the other hand.. there are folks who i know smoked all nite.. and i would still trust them with my body while they were blindfolded... *grins*

In addition, if you are not in a committed relationship and you are playing (different relationship rules apply then), and you choose to play.. i offer the following advice again.

1. pick carefully
2. watch them play first
3. make sure others are within eyesight of your play (otherswho KNOW you)
4. if you are not comfortable.. dont play,

sane is in the eye of the beholder... and as one of those folks who doesnt believe in the SSC as its currently bandied about.... i must say... the question for me..is not what has that person been doing before picking up a singletail to apply to my ass.. BUT>.. how well do i know the person i'm allowing to apply a singletail to my ass?

I have a T-shirt that read's:

Edge Player

Safe, Sane, and Consentual

Two out of Three Aint bad...

One will do in a pinch.

As Melycious said...sanity is in the eye of the beholder. I am aware of the risks...the person I am playing with is aware of the risks and still consents. Play ball!

Hi all,

I have a question: How "fundamentalistic" do you take SSC when it comes to alcohol? Does "Safe, Sane, Consentual" (or rather, the "Sane" part) mean that you shouldn't drink and play at all, or does it just mean that you should be careful and not play if you are drunk?

Hi Blue Elf

I guess i like the out of control feeling at times that having a few drinks can give a person. It lets you leave your guard down and be more relaxed. I personally do not drink and play as a rule. But if i am in a relationship with someone and we have a drink before we play i have the trust in my partner to know they will also be responsible for their actions. I would not play with someone i dont know, so drinking and playing would not be an issue for me.

For me of i am more relaxed i will not be as high strung about something i might have been fearful of. So it depends on the situation for me.
