has anyone else heard anything about this??? Apparently the Catholic church changed the official date of St Patricks day for this year only JUST to avoid conflict with some other holiday that happens on the 17th....

does this seem weird to yall?

No. Why do you think it's weird?

ok...so apparently the 17th falls into holy week......I guess I can understand why the irish catholics would want to move the date so they could still party....Ive just never heard of official holidays actually being moved by the church before....

Doesn't the Catholic Church have all sorts of rules about what can/can't be done during Holy Week?  If St. Patrick's Day is the Church's holiday I would think they can do whatever they please with it.

Okay, I just read about it:

While religious celebrations honoring St. Patrick are affected, religious and secular authorities stressed this would not change secular festivities

Plus, Patrick's the national saint in Ireland. I guess they can celebrate him whenever they want :-) .

Okay. . .

I read this, and all I could think was just HOW stupid the Catholic Church was being.

I mean sheesh!  Come on!

Make St. Patricks Day be the 14th instead.  That way EVERYONE can have a 4 day weekend in Ireland.

Oh please...the catholic church will annul a 30 year marriage that produed children as long as one of the parties slips enough money under the table.  Bumping the holiday two days is a no brainer.
