Status: offline 		Sooo...Ive gone and goofed again....

For quite a few years, I went every few months and got my hair colored at the salon...but stopped going about a year ago. So now Im looking at my hair realizing that everything from my roots to about my cheekbone is one color, while everything below that still has highlights left in it from a year ago and looks quite a bit lighter. I didnt really have the money to go back to the salon and get it done professionally so I figured..what the hell...Ill buy a box, and at least it will all be the same color.

Yea...so...now I have this interesting reddish brownish color, with a definant pink tone. with even more pinkish splotches which I think must be the places where the origional highlights were still at in my hair. Is there a way to fix this? Luckily its the stuff thats supposed to fade out in a month, but Ive got something fairly important coming up in two weeks where there will be lots of pictures and parties and such and Id really not like to be immortalized with pink hair if I can at all help it. Can I re-dye it and cover the pink? Should I wash my hair 14 times a day fro the next few weeks? Will that make it fade faster?

Status: offline 		sounds like my hair color.  but mine is salon done... i have one picture of me with store bought (the catsuit picture) and you can tell the dif from store bought to salon bought.  my other pics are all salon color.  it costs me $90 to color at salon, or i have to buy 3 boxes at $26 each at store...so why bother with the store.
my hair is too long for store bought.

Status: offline 		I've had plenty of disasters.. not the least of which was the time I went with store bought black...
black is not a good color for me....
so, I waited a week or so, then tried to tone it back with light red.

I can't even begin to describe the color I ended up with (not to mention it was streaky cause I hadn't gotten good coverage).

Thank god, there are no pictures of me during that time.

Finally went to a salon to get it fixed.

Status: offline 		lol...I went black one time for halloween..it was temporary...and actually ended up a very dark greenish color....then I tried to wash it out..and ended up with this grayish greenish hue that was quite awful....

For me to go to the salon, usually costs around $90. This time I spent $7. I guess it really is true that you get what you pay for.

Status: offline 		your hairs not that long..and they still charge you $90? yikes.  my hair was at my butt (for the 2nd time now) and i jut cut off 6 inches... it costs me $90 to color, extra(like $50-100) if i want highlights, and $30 for the cut.  if i wanted to get straw blonde i would have to bleach it even tho im naturally blonde..and bleach is expensive as hell.

Highlights are generally three to four levels lighter than the natural hair.

When tinting back, this lighter hair must be filled with the missing pigment
for the hair to appear consistent in color. Though the color will still fade
faster from the over porous hair.

It's good that you chose a semi or demi color, as it will fade, though what
you see is what you got.

Considering you have an important engagement coming up, I recommend
visiting a professional. Color can always be corrected, rest assured.

Status: offline 		Home on my lunch break from school, and interestingly enough, this morning was a refresher on hair coloring.  First, another color will not do anything but make it worse, unless its black.  I would suggest either finding a school near you to fix it, as their prices are usually lower, or going to a Sally beauty supply (or other similar store that is open to the public) and getting either Vanish or Color Oops, along with the pro-grade color offered there.  These are non-bleach products that will remove all artificial color from your hair, and you will be able to re-color right away.  If you need more help, feel free to drop me a line!

I also would not reccomend washing it 14 times a day, as that will strip it of the natural oils it needs.

One think that you can do is to wash your hair with anti dandruff shampoo, as it is a bit more agressiv then other shampoo, it will make the colour fade away.

Perhaps I'm one of those stupidly lucky individuals, but I've never had a coloring disaster. Considering my hair is permed to begin with, this may be considered a minor miracle. I've always used semi-permanent color that washes out fully in several weeks. Clairol's "Jazzing", Red Hot, is my preferred brand and shade. You can control the length of time it takes to wash out by how long you leave it in and if you apply heat.

My suggestion to the OP though, go to a professional to correct your current  disaster. You won't be able to do so yourself, you simply don't have the skills or training. Once that's accomplished, let your hair rest again, for several months. You may even want to cut off the worst affected areas to give yourself a clean slate. Harsh, I know, but better than the alternative.

Status: offline 		I've been fortunate to never have a colouring disaster, only a cutting disaster when I was around 13 or so. Aside from a handful of times, I've been cutting my own hair since I was a kid. Just a knack for it I guess.

Colouring I have avoided until around 8ish years ago when I was bored. I was cautious and went with a shade near my own just a tad more red. Sometimes I go a shade or two lighter, sometimes a shade or two darker, but never anything dramatic. Then a year or so ago I got tired of colouring it and found one the same colour as my natural and quit dying it. Maybe one of these days I will get the ambition to do it again.

My daughter, on the other hand, rarely has ever cut her own hair (one time she did was so disastrous I got a sobbing call at work, it required an almost bald head to recover from) but..........oh myyyy gawd...........has she dyed it!!! She has been playing with hair dye since she was in her mid teens. She has been everything from blonde to black. I will never forget her worst mistake. She went from blonde to lavender to green. I could not tell you what she was aiming for but it was not lavender or green. Another sobbing phone call to mom(me) at work, then a trip to a salon. You would have thought she had learned but no, there have been a few rather orange, even orange sherbetish, moments. Until she went to school to learn how to do it properly. (only to discover she really didn't want to do that job........but that is another thread for another day).

FYI......my daughter is 27 so this all is not against TOS....

This one has been a bit scary. For several reasons, it was expected that my daughter would never conceive. Then it was expected that she would not get past her first trimester. Well, she is and everything seems to be progressing nicely, so it's all good.

I've already got two grands, boys ages 3 & 4(soon to be 5). I have to say, I really hope the third is more mellow than those two adorable, high energy, terrors. It's a blast being a young grandma, I can take them hiking and all sorts of fun stuff.

Status: offline 		I am with the salon-goers......mainly because you are dealing with previously highlighted hair, which is going to absorb color at a different rate than non-stripped hair.  The salon will have developers of varying strengths, etc, and at least will get the job done at one try!

I mainly color my hair at the salon, it seems to last longer, though nothing sticks to my grey hairs for long. I color for amusement, though, since dark ash brown is not the most exciting color.  I want burgundy, like on the box!  But can't keep it for more than a few weeks....dang giant red color molecules!
