i did a search to look for what i have expereinced and found some helpful threads, however i am wondering how common it is to feel depressed after a scene? i had a great scene today and following it i became very depressed. i haven't had that happen before. it was far more intense the prior scenes i've had. Could this be the reason?

Yes, it's very common. Sounds like subdrop. There have been a lot of threads about it.

Yes it is very common I think and is a subdrop as Lordandmaster said. I have experienced it a few times particularly after an intense or new scene. I found once I was aware of what I was experiencing it became alot easier to handle. Keeping occupied and some physical exercise always I have found to help.

Just a quick note. I drop really quick lately due to hormones outta whack. Frustration is the initial trigger and then i just sink from there. What do i do? Don't worry about trying to fully understand it right that second. Cuddle, snuggle, read, EAT something healthy for blood sugar, meditate, listen to ipod, relax and even snooze. If you need to feel connected, ask your top to allow some mutual massage or something like foot worship. Works well for me. Now, when you're ready to try to prevent it, start examining what your trigger was. Was it pain? Was it humiliation? If so, what kind... You may find that there is some underlying anxiety coming to the surface when you are vulnerable or you may just drop due to the brain chemistry involved. Everyone is different. I'm sure you'll find plenty to read on this but i also hope this catches ES2's eye or subforhire. They are both very well educated ladies on the subject. I'm only speaking from personal experience. If you know you are prone to it, try to prevent/alleviate it as best you can next time(s). Don't fight it though. A good 'release' like a cry is awesome. And what's better than getting a bubble bath or cookie when you're blue? Or is that just me ;)
xoxo

Its called sub drop. The Master/Mistress/Dom/me, has to be very careful as it is a huge responsibility to care for his /hers Slave/subs needs after a scene/session. I go so deep into sub space i pass out, which means huge aftercare. there probably will be threads on aftercare as well. Hope this helps.

Yeah, she's back, safe and sound. Welcome honey, its been a while. Hope you've been enjoying your frenzied phase, and now here comes reality to bite you on the arse again.
What goes up, must come down. Basic laws of physics and sub stuff. If you get a seratonin boost, much like a cheesy quaver, you'll get subdrop, tuesday blues. There's a different colour for every flavour ill bet. But it all equates to...........

What goes up...........nuff said

Yes/no. Some subs don't have much subdrop, some subs just want to be left alone, some subs like to care for the TOP as part of their aftercare.

It's up to the dom/top to ask about aftercare and engage in a reasonable level to make sure the sub/bottom will likely have a positive experience. It's also up to the bottom/sub to communicate their needs effectively AND to have some consideration for the top/dom as well.

It's a wide range of emotions that are stirred with a scene. It's completely normal to cry after a good session and even to feel every spectrum of emotion, from intense joy to depression. Just ride it out and enjoy every minute of it.

Well Said!

Communicate if you already haven't how you felt after the scene! There is a responsibilty on the person that brings you up to make sure you don't crash and burn

If after care is lacking work out of the malaise,; listen to your favorite music, you love to cook, cook, you have pets, walk the dogs.

Hello There,
I agree with all who've spoken here. I only get sub drop after hard scenes. The hardest spanking I had lasted for about 3hrs and when I went home I slept for the better part of 36hrs. My Master says to eat something sweet within an hour of your scene helps the drop to not be so low.
Sincerely,
sub suzanne

I'm spacy for hours after a scene. I'd probably get stopped for drunk driving if I attempted to drive. Master stays with and holds me until I can function reasonably well again. He makes sure that I have fruit or something sweet along with a lot of water after we play.

Typically, if we play on Saturday, I'll crash on Tuesday. I have found that if it's been a awhile since we've played that the subdrop is worse. Kind of like a hangover, if you drink once a year the hangovers are worse than if you drink once per week.

I don't get depressed, but I do turn into a complete airhead. For the first several hours, all I want is sleep, then I am kompletly stoopid!
