Something is troubling me. Obama is 1/2 black and 1/2 white yet seems to identify as totally black. With the black community wondering if he's "black enough".. I'm wondering if his non-acknowledgment of his white half is a sign of not being "white" enough. He is in the situation of being able to flip-flop between races as will benefit him. I'm watching him closely. Will we vote for the person or the novelty of his race? Same with Hillary.. will we vote for the person or the novelty of the gender?

What do you see when you look at Obama? Probably a black guy...This should help you out. It is how he is perceived. Black America has it's own crisis. The answer can be found when you ask yourself the question, "What does it mean to be black?" Unfortunately for many blacks when asked that very question the answer will be rooted in stereotypes and ignorance....Prolly the same for the crackers as well. People want an exact definition which is stupid...What does it mean to be white in America? No one asks that question. I always wonder why? Because white people don't want to be boxed in...But for some reason that logic doesn't hold up when viewing other ethnic groups.

Although I'm Canadian...I've watched Abama's success story. At least in my eyes, he doesn't seem to be catering to blacks. When he visits the getto's of Detroit he might, but hell so would I. He's a smart man and having a black President who is smart and clearly very articulate may just be what the U.S. needs.

it could have the effect of sticking to this issues. i have seen nothing about his demeanure that allarms me. --how do i say this... a person -lets say a neocon, neocon cheerleader- who happens to be non-white, is so fake or dangerous-- ------ on the flip side i hear alot of un-nice things- more about race then gender. obama cant be lumped with the fringe "leader" ...he iisnt fringe. tho he might be liberal and there-in lies the battle. i like that he has the attitude we need. the more hillary knocks him down the better he looks. he manuvers quite well. if obama comes out and says the ans to a nations problem is xyz- im more likely to go along with it. even the healtcare debtate- is nothing to be afraid of. if he did not acknoledge his roots- ie heritege- i then would be suspicious

Personally, I could give a rat's ass about Obama's skin color. My concern is that he's spouting Trotskyist class warfare rhetoric, mixing it with total naivete about the mess in Iraq, and justifies it all by calling it "change". Obama's a loser--hopefully a big loser come either August or November.

Obama has been about as evasive about being multi-racial as Tiger Woods.which is to say, not at all. On the other hand, under the definitions that go back to the 'paper bag' and 'one drop' tests, Obama is black in society's eyes.

Well, Obama has got it exactly backwards. He keeps telling us what "He" wants to "do", not listening to the American People and asking us what "WE" want done in this country.

I wish people were above even caring about race and gender in the election, but that hasn't proven the case. You have one side that thinks with the old prejudices, then a newer one that things being prejudice in the exact opposite manner is progressive. Man there are a lot of reasons to hate people. Regardless, yeah, it'll effect things. Obama scores big with some of the black community, Hillary scores big with some women. I'm just glad Obama hasn't been playing the race card much. Hillary's a bit guilty of the gender card, but ah wells.

I think that him not playing the race card has helped him at least somewhat. Many of the people in my town are very racist and if he played up being black I would hear "I ain't votin for no nigger" (please note: not my words, repeating what I have heard) alot more than I do. Personally of the three that at this point stand a chance of getting in the white house, he will get my vote.

I'd lose respect for him very quickly if he played on his race. Race just shouldn't be a factor.. the moment someone tries to make it one is the moment they're becoming racist themselves.

Well, I don't know about 'we', but "I" will vote for someone based on what's between their ears, not what's between their legs nor the color of their skin or how big or small their nose is or whether or not they are a redhead, blonde or brunette. Most all of society will see him as black and refer to him as black regardless of him being half white. People see black, most don't want to acknowledge the white half. This is sad! I respect Obama for not using the race card, yet if he did flip it to his white part, I'm sure there would be people who didn't like that either. It would become a reverse race card. I'm leaning towards him as president. I think we need the Clintons in general out of the White House. Hillary is a "know it all" and she's not all that. Best wishes ~ka'jirah

Speaking as a person who is "half black" very rarely has a non-black person seen me as anything other than black...it's just part of the American psyche. Wouldn't want all us mixed people to start thinking we are "uppity" and all, i guess. And imagine how confusing it would become for people who are 1/4 black...or half white,1/4 black, 1/4 asian...or ...get my point? i know who i am...i'm proud of all my ancestors...i like to think my race is human...but i think reality in this case ...bites.(like a mother f****er) and btw...i like McCain
