When I start to become aroused, even at the first thought of something that I might enjoy, I get very quiet.  I have a hard time expressing myself and a strong desire to listen.  I feel completely overwhelmed when asked what I am thinking, because I am thinking I want to hear MORE. See MORE....and it's as if there is nothing at all in my mind to give, it is blank!  Just waiting to receive stimuli.

Is that a submissive trait, or am I just peculiar?

Also interested in hearing how other people feel when becoming aroused... ( I once knew a guy who sneezed!)

It's a way that YOUR submission and arousal manifests, and probably a trait that many share.

This thread has me smiling because I relate to the OP all too well. One of my *interests* overwhelms me any time I am near him. His smell, knowing he is thinking about me, being in his presence, even chatting with him online is enough to send me into a state of arousal. During these times my otherwise exuberant and interesting conversational skills are replaced by this need to please him in any way possible. I am hoping it wears of when the newness of it all is not so shiny, especially because one of the things he values in a partner is communication and the ability to interest him in non-BDSM related ways.

My roommate, on the other hand, is quite the opposite. I can tell exactly how far into subspace she has gone by how far away from her room I have to be in order to safely hold a phone conversation with the 'nillas in my life. :) But oh, how I enjoy those noises she makes.

*snicker* I can just imagine...

"what are those noises?"

"um.. the TV! it's a horror movie.... no really!"

Once I'm past a certain point, I can't even think straight, let alone string two words together and make a sentence.

Boy do I know that feeling :o)

You're not the only one. But I wouldn't call it the trait of a submissive per se. I would call it a trait belonging to you who happens to be submissive. And since you know you tend to go nonverbal at such times, it's your responsibility to tell anyone you're thinking of playing with about before you start play.

This is very good advice, because some people might think that your sudden silence is because you are unhappy or uncomfortable and don't want to say anything. Thus the opposite message is sent.

I don't have to worry about that, as I tend to babble. When I get all quiet, it's because I really am unhappy or uncomfortable and don't want to hurt the other person's feelings. (Note to self: pay attention to my own lectures about expressing your feelings.)

Very, very good point.

LOL this is great! i do not think it makes you anymore submissive than it makes me....but i assure you it has never happened during vanilla sex that had no dynamic. i get quiet, my chest feels hot almost like the air is heated and thick, seems hard to breath. Deep breaths, lol no intelligent thoughts except to concentrate on "That" voice and what is being said over the pounding of my heart. i seem incapable of voicing or answering questions. my voice shakes and it is almost a whisper. Actually i view it as embaressing. But this journey is not about hiding behind my imagined armor, but letting go of it. i do not think it makes me submissive no but it is a response i have to being Dominated. i am glad to know i am not the only one who has funny quirks....tytyty!

I completely agree that it is a personality trait. Its just who you are. We all have our little "quirks" so to speak.
