I have to agree with frenchpet. I am terrified of dentists. I was spoiled as a kid -- our dentist gave us laughing gas for a cleaning. As an adult, one of the first dentists I went to (the dentist of my childhood died) informed me that he would give me novocaine or gas, but not both, and NEITHER for a cleaning. My current dentist is nice, but I have skipped going to him for years at a time. A visit is an invasion of my mouth, by a man with whom I don't really care to be intimate. The nerves are so close to the brain, which must make the pain more intense. My most recent appointments were to have a filling removed and the remaining tooth crowned. The filling and placement of the temporary crown were bearable. When I returned for the permanent crown, the cement hit a nerve and I just about bolted. Punching the dentist or assistant would have been impolite, so I merely screamed as much as I could with that glue stick thingie and the fingers in my mouth. I KNOW I'm a big baby when it comes to the dentist.
