Madame4a -> RE: Earning My Old Leather Cap (3/2/2008 12:34:03 AM)

I wanted to add.. there seems to be this pervasive theme that 'leather' means something other than BDSM... for me.. its a term I use interchangeably... I was brougth up with the term 'leather'.. I didn't hear BDSM until I got online and for me, I associate it mainly with the hetero community... one I float in and out of these days...

leather = BDSM... and all encompassing term and for most of the people I interact with in RT.. they understand the term leather...

Just checking back on My own thread.  My thanks to those who participated, and gave their comments.

The funny thing about this is, it is not something I want to campaign for.  It's something that I want to earn.  That might not necessarily make sense to some, but I'm afraid I don't have a better way to explain it.  I know it's not something that I'll deserve next month or even next year.  There's a lot between then and now.

I wanted to thank Madame4a, Archer (My best to Elegant, btw), and the others who understood the intent of the post.  I'd also like to thank the folks who asked questions here and on the other side about the subject.  The very thought of that makes Me smile.  Even just the topic of old leather gave some folks a chance to learn something new, and there's always a benefit to that.

Lady Pact,
I don't know if your community has anything like they do here, but DFW has a year long mentor's program for Dom/mes that begins each January and involves a substantial commitment of time and energy.  If your community has something similar, I'd highly recommend you participate as part of your journey in this lifestyle.  If it's anything like here, you'll be mentored by Dom/mes of all orientations and learn many things which would greatly help you on your way toward becoming a better Domme and mentor of others; which knowing you, is what I suspect you really want most out of the experiences you'll have as part of eventually earning that leather cap as recognition of your contributions to your community and the level of skill you've attained. Madame, I believe you will find B/D/S/M encompasses a great deal more than "leather".  The terms are related, but not interchangeable.  For example, I know people who are deeply into a hetero spanking kink who do not consider themselves "leather", but consider themselves in a B/D/S/M community.  "Leather" has connotations of protocol, community service and (often, not always) bisexuality or gay orientation that the broader term of "B/D/S/M" does not have.

E.

Back again.

Hi Wickad.  I didn't take the comment as belittling at all.  It's just that, to Me, it would seem an odd question if it wasn't coming from someone who is in the lifestyle.  Kind of like someone who didn't play golf wanting to know if they could play in the Master's tournemant, if that makes any sense.  It's just a sense of humor.  No harm.  No foul.

Madame4a, I've wanted to take the time to thank you for your comments in this thread.  I appreciate your thoughts.

Pixel, unfortunately, there is nothing like what you describe in your location that is similar to here.  As we've talked about before, I'm in a rather small community in My little corner of the world.  What you describe in your area sounds like a wonderful opportunity, but there really isn't anything similar to that here.  If I were actually based in Atlanta, the opportunities might be different.  This is one of those shining examples of the differences between a large community, and a small one.

I do have to say that I'm rather glad that I started the thread.  While it hasn't been a discussion for the masses, it's certainly been, and I hope it continues to be, very interesting.

LadyPact ( and again I say, gawd your new pics rock!)

I believe  You need to throw your flogger to the wind and go for it--I am very familiar with the Augusta/Atlanta areas--as I have on occasion been to 1763 with a dear friend of Mine ( when I come again, I am going to contact You)--You are close to SC and about 6 hours drive from NC--so there is a tad of a circle you could expand into--I believe You bring reality, wisdom, insight and can debunk some of the stereotypes--just as Pandora has, I might recommend if you have not--contacting Her, She may be able to provide You some guidance how to break out of  Your world there---( and I am for anyone who can outshine Midori at a venue).

It may mean travel to key events during the year, so some financial investment---but go for it--by all means!

Madame4a -> RE: Earning My Old Leather Cap (3/2/2008 7:31:53 AM)

actually.. leather takes it all in.. its just as broad if not broader  term... while people may not and do not need to use it to identify, it takes in all the bdsm and then some... and its not about orientation, except a leather one.. not about sexual orientation...

I know plenty of heterosexuals who identify themselves as 'leather' ...

it actually is a much broader term than bdsm

LadyPact -> RE: Earning My Old Leather Cap (3/2/2008 8:20:44 AM)

LadyH, please do!  I think you and I could have wonderful discussions.  I think it would be a great way to pass an afternoon.  I'm very fond of having the opportunity to just get to know people of a like mind.  I can spend hours, just enjoying conversation.  A great advantage of being in the South.

I must thank you again for the compliments on the new pictures.  Sometimes, 'new' leather has it's advantages, too.

Madame4a, I'm so glad you offer your perspective in all of this.  There are some things that transend the orientations of het, same, bi, etc.  In the end, we are people, are we not?  I'm happy to see someone who understands My train of thought on the issue.  I knew this thread would speak to a selective few.  I'm glad to count you among them.

Lady Pact,
Perhaps one of your contributions to the community, either in your local one in Augusta or the larger one in Atlanta, would be to help organize something similar to what we have here in DFW for those who wish to learn how to be a better Master or Domme??  I'm positive those here in our community would be happy to share details of how their program works and I can readily put you in touch with some of the people who are involved as mentors.  They're all respected members of our community. [&:]

BTW, subs are involved in the process too as they're needed for the Doms & Dommes to practice with and learn from as well. [;)]

Elegant -> RE: Earning My Old Leather Cap (3/3/2008 6:12:40 AM)

LadyPact,

One thing that might be welcomed by those in the Augusta area is more education about earned leathers. I'm sure Master Archer would be more than willing to come visit and present his class Rites Of Passage: Earned Leather. This might give more people the kick-start to keep this tradition alive.

Thanks for pointing this out, Elegant.  Not all communities are really that knowledgable where it pertains to earning leathers.  Most don't seem to care to honor this sort of tradition as it comes from a place that very few people active were ever touched by.  I'm ok with that.  I'm also ok with folks starting their own traditions :-)

I quoted both, just so that I might answer each.

Elegant, you might have something there.  We've been trying to work towards bringing some different presenters into the area.  It would be an excellent opportunity (My personal aspirations aside) for the educational value.

Pandora, you're also right.  Being a transplant in My current location has shown Me how much difference there can be in two geographically different communities.  At times, it's interesting to make the comparisons.

LadyPact -> RE: Earning My Old Leather Cap (4/14/2008 12:20:37 AM)

Ok.  I called this old thread up because I wanted to give an update.

It has come to My attention that I will be receiving My cap in about a week's time.  My little family has tried to keep it a secret from Me, but that is not as easy as it sounds.

I wanted to thank everyone who has had input here.

Now, I just have to figure out what the hell I'm going to say!

MasterFireMaam -> RE: Earning My Old Leather Cap (4/14/2008 2:11:44 AM)

Do everything you do because it's IMPORTANT, not because it'll get you the cap. If you do it for the latter, it will eventually show.
