Why don't they answer the questions, or give some idea of what they want, who they are etc. Why just blank? It seems that we have a really great tool to let people know who we are and what interests us.

Does anyone else bypass blank profiles?

Some people have blank profiles because they are not trying to find a partner, but just here to socialize. I have a Master...no interest in recieving emails from others.

We do here do'nt even consider thinking about them.
Ours may not be great or stand out but even just a few words can attract intrest rather than a blank page same as in a news paper or book.

That is the whole idea in my mind. I wrote my profile on this site in about a minute flat. If that long. I specifically did not put much into it because at the time I joined I was not looking and felt we had to have a profile to join.

Not that it helped me get any less attention but I did try.

Yup, I ignore blank profiles. I figure if they haven't written anything then either they don't want any attention (the two posts above being a good example of that) or that they just aren't someone who would interest me. I look at it this way, a profile may be the first impression you make on someone, so how much effort a person puts into it tells me something about them. If I see one blank, I just pass. If I see one poorly written or focusing on just fetishes or sex, I assume they're just out for sex and thrills (and since I'm not, I pass on those too). The ones that really interest me are the ones that tell me something about themselves as a person, more than just fetishes and lifestyle interests... who they are as a person, things they enjoy, goals, hobbies, personal interests, achievements, things they're proud of, etc. That stuff tells me so much more about them and gives me a starting point in writing to them.

BTW, here's a profile tip. Write about things in your profile you want people to write to you about. That is, if you share some things about yourself that you want people to notice, odds are that is what folks are going to respond to. You can kind of control who writes to you a little bit that way.... trolls not withstanding.

Oh my god... I was going to say that a blank profile reflected at best a blank personality.
Oh well, at least he got his caps lock key repaired.

edited to add : Of course some people are not looking and don't need to write anything on their profile, that's different (many just write something like "not looking").

My profile is blank because I'm not actively looking. As the profile says I'm just 'hanging out' in the forums. I find them interesting/entertaining/informative/giggle-inducing and sometimes I need one, some or all of those

Having a blank profile does discourage most from emailing, but not all.

Thanks MsIncognito, it is exactly what I meant, if I had been perusing through profiles I would have seen not a blank profile but one that says, I am just hanging come talk to me in the forums, I would have known how to connect with you.

That is a great profile!!! Because in a very few words you told us what you were doing and how to contact you!!

thanks

beth

I bypass most blank profiles, but on occasion, I have been known to say "what is up with that catchy handle, and nothing else about you?"
No one's told me to piss off yet, lol. M

I'm with you on this, Padriag. Especially when it's clearly listed that someone has interest in a "relationship"....one should figure there's more to that than just BDSM activities.

I had a web page attached to a profile, and I've always included some of my vanilla interests, as well as a few photos on the site. (No one ever questioned my vanilla interests.) The page also included that two of my dogs died within a month of each other. I had a memoriam posted to them, with their photos, along with birth date, and the days they died. I probably had hundreds of hits to the web site, but only one caring man <a Dom, go figure> said anything about the dogs. I found that strange. I thought this was a good way for me to see screen out the caring types, and then found only one.

K - love me, love my dogs

I haven't gone scanning the profiles so I can't say much. I do check out the profiles of some of the people on here that write opinions. I just like to know a little about the people and what their background is. I do read them and if they say they don't want to be contacted then I feel that others should respect that.

As for me, I filled out most of my profile so that other people would know about me and where I'm coming from. I'm currently involved with a Sub and don't really plan to change that, but I would gladly chat or e-mail with other people who have some of the same interests I do.

And Yes, I do skip over a profile if it's blank. Obviously that is exactly what the writer wants me to do.

Set your email filters to block email from various types you absolutely don't want to hear from
Deactivate your profile so it can't be seen
Delete your profile... you don't need it to post in the forums anyway.

That reminds me of a fine joke. The punch line is: "Would you mind getting rid of this dog for me?"

Again I say, expecting ANYTHING from ANYONE online that involves ANY sort of common sense is going to lead to disappointment.

Just accept it and be happily surprised.
