How true your words are. The safeword surely doesn't help the person if no one is there to listen, doesn't care to listen, fails to recognize the emergency or deliberately ignores it. That a Mr Lord found himself cut up in pieces in a landfill in New England after an SM-scene gone wrong......that a gay fellow also in New England found himself in a shallow grave after leathersex went wrong....and after this canadian fellow wound up on a ventilator after a near hanging incident in a NYC pro dungeon.....safewords in all of those cases wouldn't have fixed the inherent safety issues.
