Well, I took a look at Sea Shepard's website.  As I reckoned; they are a bunch of hippie, vegan lunatics.  I don't keep up with groups like this much.  But I do remember some of those ALF and ELF, bomb throwing, arsonist, nuts were connected with them.

All I can say is if they want to play little games on the open seas, then they should be prepared for possible consequences.  I'd have thrown molotov cocktails back at the little over privilged pricks.

If,as you say,you don't keep up with them much how is it that you know that they are "hippie, vegan lunatics"?
Do you have any proof that they are connected to the ALF or the ELF?  Do you have any proof that they are bomb throwing arsonist nuts?  How do you get to bomb throwing from butter chucking?

Why do you think that throwing "Molotov cocktails" is an appropriate response to someone throwing rotten butter?
How do you come to the conclusion that they are "over privileged"?

Latest development - a Sea Shepherd crew member claims to have been shot by the Japanese Coast Guards.  The Japanese admit to lobbing a few flashbangs to deterrent effect but this guy alleges he dug a bullet out of his kevlar vest.

Exactly.

Would you have tossed such devices at them before or after slaughtering right whale calves swimming along side their mothers?

Before or after venturing into Australian waters and being told to leave then harpooning whales?

Heck, if the Japanese were really serious about this they have an impressive naval force.   Why not send a light cruiser escort and engage the ships in a conventional military manner?   Sinking the Sea Shepherd vessels could be EASILY accomplished by Japan's Navy.

Good point. Perhaps they should.

MissMorrigan -> RE: How can Japan defend this??? (3/7/2008 11:38:04 AM)

Same here, HS. I'm not anti either whaling or seal culling, however, I am emphatically against current methods used to achieve this

They eat them, it's apparently excellent meat. I've heard arguments that minke whales are pretty much like ungulates, intelligence-wise, and have a sustainable population. I'm not in favor of whaling in general, but I'm willing to listen to reasonable arguments.

Muttling:
By the terms of the treaty that ended the last war that they lost they cannot have a Navy or an Army or an Air Force...what they do have is called a Self Defense Force.  Don't you think it would be stretching the limits of credibility to claim self defense while protecting poachers in foreign territorial waters from butter chuckers.

Perhaps the Australian royal navy should have sunk them when we had the chance, would have saved everyone a lot of heart ache.

I am not sure why you want to kill people for chucking rotten butter at poachers?

I think they should have boarded the vessel and arrested them.   If you or I were out fishing in Australian waters by illegal methods or without a license, what do you think would happen to us?

Foititis -> RE: How can Japan defend this??? (3/7/2008 10:41:23 PM)

You'd be deported, I'd be fined.

And the ship?   In the U.S., any equipment used for poaching is siezed by the State.   If you poach a deer and put it in the back of your truck, you are fined along with loosing your rifle and your truck.

[sarcasm]

Yes, I have been on a whale watching cruise.  I have seen my whale, so we dont really need to have them on our planet any more.  Let the Japanese kill all the whales despite the damage to the ecosystem or the violation of international laws and treaties (they were in Australian waters) because we still have whales at Sea World, and as everybody knows, if the whale did not want to be killed, it would swim somewhere else.

So long, and thanks for all the fish.

You people who support the Japanese are funny.

So are the people supporting an increasingly dangerous attack pattern from so-called humanitarians. Do you also support those who bomb abortion clinics and kill doctors, nurses and innocent bystanders to save some fetuses?

I dont support those who kill or intimdate people engaged in lawful professions, but thanks for asking.

Dont like the law?  Change it.  Or move somewhere that feels the way you do.

Welcome to California, now go home.

p.s.  What exactly does your post have to do with Japan?

Well, your earlier post implied you were against Japan in this instance. Yet they were the victims of the attack, the intimidation. And you were supporting it.

Sinergy -> RE: How can Japan defend this??? (3/8/2008 12:39:21 AM)

Before you reply that the Sea Shepherds were preventing the Japanese from whaling, please look at the part of the post that indicated they were doing it in Australian waters and in violation of the Australian navy telling them to leave.  If they need to kill whales, they have the Sea of Japan to find them.

It is always important to head off the obtuse and irrelevant response before it is posted.

This would be the post I was referring to. Indicating those who support the Japanese are 'funny' implies that you side with the attackers in this case, the attackers who are using threatening and intimidating tactics against the Japanese. What is there to misunderstand?
