BBC Censored Benazir Bhutto's Reports that Bin Laden Had Been Murdered
http://existentialistcowboy.blogspot.com/2007/12/bbc-censored-benazir-bhuttos-reports.html

[Edit: it would seem that having been caught out, the BBC has since replaced the censored version with the original]

“Yes, well, one of them is, umm, a very key figure in security. He is a former military officer. He is someone that, umm.., has had dealings with, umm.., Jaish-e-Mohammed [JEM], one of the band groups of Maulana Azhar , who was in an Indian jail for decapitating 3 British tourists and 3 American tourists and he also had dealings with Omar Sheikh, the man who murdered Osama bin Laden ."

Has the BBC ever commented on what Bhutto said?

Sugar you couldnt have listened to the BBC clip as she clearly mentions that Bin Laden was murdered in that one too, somewhere around five minutes into it. Its a bit ungenuine posting that the BBC have censored something if you havent fully listened to it ( The BBC tape ) . The taped recording is also very poor and comes from Al Jaazera TV.

Level i cant say i have heard any comments from the BBC on this, im very suprised that Forst didnt pass any comment when she said Bin Laden had been murdered, so im wondering about the editing of the Al Jaazera tape.

Sugar, while i still think you didnt listen to the tape, it seems the BBC did edit it out and have since re-edited the tape.

My apologies....

Not my title, and I noted that the BBC clip was now complete. What can I do? Networks are kind of screwed thanks to the internet. It doesn't forget. Do I believe they got caught censoring the bit out, heck yeah - it has happened too often for it not to be true.

Also, that's just a point in passing - my interest was in what she said, not that she had been censored (although it is interesting). My real interest in the piece was the bit about OBL.

Some would say she said too much and got taken out because of it.

Sugar from a UK point of view, the fact that our main news organisation would censor a story is indeed very disturbing. I cant see any junior editor would just leave a comment like that out because he/she thought Bhutto was mistaken. That fact he was murdered by his own side, if true, would be a major new coup in itself.

Despite the BBC denial there is more to this than meets the eye, i cant recall seeing anything in the major press stories either.

With respect Politesub53, I think it's naive to think the BBC doesn't slant the news. Sure, generally BBC reporting is of a very high quality - I don't contest that point. My concern is to note that they also often slant a story to satisfy the political interests of what we might call the "west" - Europe and North America. The BBC is by far not the worst offender in this category, but it does engage in the odd bit of yellow and imperialistic journalism on some issues.

To me that's just a fact.

Slanting news is one thing,  the BBC often do this as anyone in the UK can tell you. This is a whole different ball game, as its something that reaches right to the heart of the war on terror, which the government now dont want to be called the war on terror.

Whats even more interesting is the world wide media dont seem to have picked up on Bhutto`s claim. I am sure Pakistani intelligence would have enough contacts in Afghanistan to know the truth.
