The owner lives close enough to the stated store's location so as to cause more than one of us to question as to whether or not he is the owner. And seeing as how the OP or he has yet to respond again, I'd venture a guess, given past experience on this board that he is the owner or is closely affiliated.

Do you mean 'the dog' lives close enough? I was under the impression from googling the op, that they were the owner...

No, but likely a client by the manner that he chose to defend you.

As someone else said, business promotions best come from either happy customers or a businessperson honestly inviting folks to come to their site, citing the reasons -- it's new, they've got something that everyone else doesn't, or they're running a sale. Maybe instead of making disparaging remarks to strangers, your friend could better be put to work expressing how thrilled he is with your great customer service or fast shipping (although that would only be 8 miles from where he is.....)
