The bathroom was the best choice because of the layout of my apartment ... Its the only room without carpet and a doorway she can see me from. My desk is about ten feet away from the bathroom door.

She's settled down now ... Napping now that she knows I'm not going to disappear from sight.

Malchi is half Maltese and half Chihuahua ... Most of them have soft curly hair but mine has a short, smooth coat and NO body fat. Its only in the last couple of months that she's been big enough to wear even the tiniest sweaters and up until a week ago, they were still big enough to get her hung up in them if she tried to run around.

If you look at my profile you can see her as a newborn.

OMG, thanks for directing me to to her pic - she's adorable!  I can't imagine holding something that small.  I hope all goes well with her training!  Our bathroom is rather tucked away, where the dog could never see me b/c she wasn't allowed up that hallway,  which is why I keep referring to the kitchen as being a central room.  [:)]

Puppy house training ideas

Wet dog food breeds tooth decay and are not nearly as healthy as Science Diet or one of the other quality brands. The last dog I had was allergic to gluten, so I had to use a gluten free dog food or deal with all his hair falling out and him itching all the time.

There are several wet dog foods I would feed over Science Diet , Science Diet is just over priced junk food( I know ...the OP is training to be a vet tech so one of the most common foods sold thru vets )  but dogs were meant to be predominantly carnivores their natural diets do not include corn and soy which is what makes up the bulk of Science Diet with very very little meat content, there are certain enzymes a dog really needs that can only be sourced from meat and most dogs do not get enough ,  for my own gang I feed a blend of  Canidae and EVO  red meat formula to keep the grain content very low so the seniors are not developing joint inflammation/diabetes(grains break down into sugars) and to maintain muscle and to keep the immune system strong in my girl with Lupus, it has also help to raise my senior boy's thyroid levels from borderline low  to back into the normal range , the whole crew has excellent bloodwork even the seniors have excellent values for kidney/liver function..http://www.dogfoodanalysis.com/dog_food_reviews/

and kibble does nothing to prevent tooth decay, tooth problems tend to be heritary ,  I have one dog here that pretty much needs dental cleanings every 6 months because his teeth are so  porous they act like a sponge plus has little enamel on the surface , the food particle get into all the tiny pit and they too small to get a brush into so tartar forms very quickly, this year because of his age and the fact his teeth roots are so solidly anchored to the jaw  he will be going to a specialist to have his remaining teeth removed, yet I have had 2 other dogs of the same breed  that could go years with little to no tartar buildup,   toy breeds tend to be notorious for having bad teeth.  Paying attention to a puppy can be tough even it is on leash beside you if you are pre-occupied with something else ..like studying , and chances are with a pup that small your not going to hear water works when it piddles on a carpet to alert you either, so the bathroom may be your best alternative,  though a crate in you bedroom is ideal for making it feel like part of the pack for sleeping at night another option  being your concern about taking a young puppy outside in inclement weather is that many people have successfully litter trained  toy breed pups, pet stores sell litter specifically designed for dogs, you need to avoid clay litters as  with puppies as they can develop intestinal blockages if they attempt to eat clay litter,   anothe option which I have used before for a disable senior dog who was very unsteady on her feet  and if the other dogs bumped into her  would topple  her and she would have troubles getting up again  was an xpen with a rubber mat to protect against accidents, the plastic ones come with mesh panels too small for your pup to get thru,  using 4 of the 6 panels would probably be ideal for your pup,  and you would be able to place it near to where you are working, if cost is a concern, this site has instructions for making you own exercise pen out of pvc pipe

As for clothes , ebay is a wonderful resource, look under chihuahau or yorkie for outfits this is the seller I get my chinese cresteds outfits from , I have asked her to make something in custom sizes before http://cgi.ebay.ca/Yorkie-chi-playsuit-polar-fleece-hoodsuit_W0QQitemZ150217966780QQihZ005QQcategoryZ46298QQtcZphotoQQcmdZViewItemQQ_trksidZp1742.m153.l1262

and she would have made up and in the mail within a couple of days
LOL and mine does need clothes for cool/cold days http://s3.photobucket.com/albums/y53/mleg2001/winnie/?action=view&current=P1010033.jpg
