Hi I recently re read the site Terms of Service and found some interesting points that I thought should perhaps be brought up here to perhaps help  all of us that enjoy being here continue to do so.

One of those points was that we ALL are meant to read the TOS weekly, check if there have been an revisions to the TOS , as when we signed up to use this site, we agreed to check TOS weekly. I do wonder how many of us do that , can anyone lay claim?

The other point is about people advertising services via the profiles, from what I can understand, this is against TOS, as is providing email addresses for those personal services or personal websites, basically CM being used for free advertising, and I have seen much of this on the other side.

Reading the TOS is a bit stiff, it being legalise jargon, but the gist can be got, and parts of it are highlighted by the mods in the various forum posting rules. The legal people who wrote the TOS I am kind of impressed with after I followed the link to their site, impressed that there are law specialists dedicated to providing free speech and the right to discuss kinky things, upholding the US first amendment.

Anyone else have any thoughts?

I find it an interesting point, I cannot admit to re reading the tos myself. Perhaps I shall do so more often. Though weekly reading of the tos requires one to come on weekly, sometimes that is inconvenient.

It is a horror. I think that I have read the Terms of Service at least three times; the last time when a mod claimed that I had broken the TOS, but there was nothing about that issue in the TOS. One of the difficulties is finding them. The other major difficulty is that they are near indigestible legalese - and I am not a masochist.

I would appreciate a comprehensive summary of the TOS of say ten lines - without the legalese.

Is it an idea to as reminders insert points from the TOS in the scroll window showing recent posts or something like it?

Yeah i read them the other day cos there have been a few mentions of them recently, and jesus it was hard reading, I just figure its virtually the same as other forums and try to stick to what I think is appropriate. I do agree that a bullet pointed

*thou must not

type of thing would be really really conveniant as it seems there is quite a lot of TOS breaking that I am not even aware as being that.,

Weekly is asking a bit much. If a new rule comes out, a mod could easily make a new post about it and stick it to the top of a forum.

Can you point this section out to me in the ToS?  I looked for this a month or so ago, I couldn't find any such claim.  I found things which 'almost' said that, but not quite that.

I am curious about this part. Don't you agree to a certain TOS when you register to the website? That means also that they can't change it, with out you have a chance to disagree and resign.
A contract is mutual, not?

The contract IS mutual.  You agree to this:

You agree that all modifications or changes to this Agreement are in force immediately upon posting.  The updated or edited version supersedes any prior versions immediately upon posting, and the prior version is of no continuing legal effect.

At the top of the TOS, there is a date for the last update.

Ah ok..thank you.
TOS and other papers you sign are always interesting. I am curious how this works on the internet...because we come all from different countries and such. One paper can have legal vallue in one country...while in the other country not. Doesn't matter much always..when you get kicked out...you get kicked out...lol

Hard to find??? Scroll down to the bottom of a page and the TOS, Privacy Policy, and Spam Policy (the legal stuff) are links just below the copyright. Slightly differently laid out on CollarMe vs. CollarChat, but right there. Every page. Any page.

Thate Rule I feel is a good idea, perhaps as bullet points and as DesFIP said  changes could be highlighted via the forums.

I nominate the OP to read them weekly and then update us as needed! Thanks OP!!
I am taking law classes right now, and one thing I try very hard to do is to write things in easily decipherable English.
There really is no reason for a bunch of heretofores, and inasmuch, mumbo jumbo, when it is just as easy to write a contract that can be easily understood by most.
I think it's just something a lot of lawyers do to 'prove' that they are worth what you're paying them.
The things I try to do on any forum I am at are;
do not attack others, even if you disagree, try to say it respectfully. (yes, I try to, I REALLY REALLY do.)
attempt to post the thread to the appropriate area in the forum.
Do not bring up things that are against tos, or legally questionable.
I also try to avoid offensive language. I don't honestly know if it's against tos, but, there are better ways of getting your point across. (most of the time)
If you do those things you can avoid trouble in most forums I go to.

Thats what I thought contracts were until I read it. It might be illegal without notification, I dont know and what country or state is the contract legal in? But are you really going to take them to court?

10 lines huh? I'll give it a shot.

#1: Behave like an adult.
#2, 3, 4: Don't start threads about kids, snuff or selling crack.
#5: Don't plagarize the work of other people.
#6: Don't be a stalker.
#7: Don't spam.
#8: Be at least 18 years old.
#9, 10: Make sure all pictures you upload belong to you and don't depict minors.

Almost all incidence of moderation come about because people violate the rule I listed as #1. If you are in doubt as to whether you are exhibiting the behavior of an adult, you're probably not so act accordingly or accept the consequences of your doubt.

It's not really necessary to read the TOS every week. When you open the page there is a 'latest update' date and if you've read it since then and remember it, no need to really read it again. I check the TOS every month or so but I don't read it over and over again unless there's something new.

As for the TOS being difficult to find .. at the bottom of every single forum page (this one included) is a clickable link which says Terms of Service. Just scroll all the way to the bottom. It's in the middle.

The exact sentences read:
"You may not include any personally-identifying information such as phone numbers, street addresses, Web site addresses, email addresses, Instant Messenger screen names, or any other information that if provided may be used to circumvent the Website's communication capabilities. You may not use the Website to advertise products or services, nor may You use the Website in order to solicit products or services, unless otherwise permitted by collarchat.com [collarme.com]. "

And, as for the ten-line challenge? Each rule subject to the prior rules...

Rule #1
Our site, our rules, if you don't like them, use another site.
#2
Be adult. Be legal adult. No non-adults here at all in name, photo, addy.
#3
You don't pay us to use the site; we don't pay you to be here. Period.
#4
if your "community" (read: town, county/parishi/provice/shire, state, country, possibly even neighborhood) "standards" don't like us, it's still your choice to be here. Don't like it, leave.
#5
Keep away from children: eyes, hands, bodies of all under age of 18. Lock computer if must.
#6
Be real, be honest, be careful, because we know you're not all going to obey. USE SITE WITH CAUTION!
#7
Illegal actions not tolerated; we will help cops when legally required; we may choose to help cops in other cases at our discretion.
#8
Legal recourse: cyber crimes (cloning IDs, forging communications, cyber identity theft, defamation/libel, etc. AND any offline results of such are valued at $50,000 US penalty--weregild, anyone?--) per instance. We don't have to help you sue or pay lawyers to do so, but we can choose to do so if we wish.
#9
Any other nuisance suits are hereby valued at a maximum damage value of $1 US. Period.
#10
You agree, by coming here, to remain familiar with our rules. Check the TOS date regularly for updates. Last update, Boxing Day 2007.

When profiles violate the highlighted terms, that is what the report profile button is for.
