Dear thegreg, Ladies and Gentlemen; For me personally, I am a traditionalist. I prefer using the rattan cane for Bastinado. I do like to use the thinner diameter and one that has a lot of flex to it. I use the straight on technique, such as in the American Style; as well as tipping. Offered for consideration; in addition to caning the foot dry, it can be interesting by having the foot wet with water. The cane will not suffer for the exposure to water however, it is interesting sensation to do the Bastinado when the foot is well soaked in water then removed. In addition, one can add some body lotion type muscle relaxing chemical application, like Icy Hot, Ben Gay, Absorbine Junior and then cane. However, I would wrap suran wrap around the rattan cane, which will not retard the affects of the cane, yet prevents the chemical fluids from being soaked into the rattan cane, regardless if finished or raw. With man-made cane products, such as acrylic, metal, aluminum arrow shafts, carbon arrow shafts, delrin and or other products, can be easily cleaned and sanitized. Other clever ideas I've used personally in the past, is having an individual have uncooked rice, bird seed filled socks on and then cane. That adds a different sensation. I have also caressed the foot with silk, rabbit fur pelts and awakened the skin and create sensitivity and then immediately administer the cane to the feet. I have dripped water one drop at a time on the toes and letting the water cascade over the foot, has created it's own torture--even though it isn't caning. Just some thoughts. Respectfully submitted for consideration, Lady Hugs
