LadyPact -> Lack of imagination (3/5/2008 7:10:57 PM)

After reading through some of the forum posts this evening, I've kept coming back to the same, repeated thought.

Has originality gone completely by the wayside?  It seems that, over and over, folks get on and type up a post or a reply that is so transparent that it barely makes it worth the time to read the boards.  "Give me something to jerk off to" is the obvious front runner.  A disturbing (though sad) second is "My D type doesn't have enough imagination to figure out fun for ourselves".  A not too distant third are the same exhausting debates.  Slave vrs sub.  Lifestyle vrs pro, is it cheating, etc.  The snarkfest is definitely in the top five, though I hesitate to place it against the ever popular 'create a new screen name (fully denoted by the vanilla cone) to bitch about what isn't fulfilling'.  Let's not forget the personal venom warms, that some threads with perfectly good ideas get turned into.

Has anyone else noticed this?  Am I just having a case of PMS that is making Me more sensative to it at the moment?  Have the threads of personal thoughts, actual experiences, technique, etc., really have been in shorter supply lately?

RedMagic1 -> RE: Lack of imagination (3/5/2008 7:22:43 PM)

I think you're right.  If it helps any, I'm enjoying the new relationship I'm in very much... and no, I'm not posting any details, unless I think something could help a person who posts a specific problem.  (I freely admit to a double standard, since I love hearing about your relationships.[;)])

It will correct back.  It is exhausting to complain all the time, or to take offense at every possible thing.  The bottom line is that a lot of people here do have good ideas, and real people really do post real requests for real advice to solve their real problems.  It's worth my time to be here.

I recall posting a thread about "thinking outside of the box" a while back.

They argued about the size of the boxes instead.

It's feeling pretty futile to try and pry open  the blinders.

I think it would take a nuke to open the doors for the majority around here.

I don't know anything but consider this thread:

http://www.collarchat.com/m_1682118/tm.htm

I don't recall a similar thread on this topic, it's sharing and soliciting practical advice and experience.

But 0 replies? What's wrong with 1682118 that I can't see?

RedMagic1 -> RE: Lack of imagination (3/5/2008 9:18:06 PM)

Okay, I changed my mind about not revealing anything.....[;)]

LadyPact -> RE: Lack of imagination (3/6/2008 2:40:17 AM)

Thank you, gentlemen.  At least I have some assurance that it's not PMS, since none of you could possibly have the same affliction.

Red, I do hope that double standard will change.  I tend to think it will when the interesting topics are more frequent again.  I noticed in your second reply that it already has.  As more things connect from discussions to things in your relationship, you'll see it happening.  Personally, I happen to enjoy that.  I'd much rather read about life experiences than fiction any day.

Leatherist, I do recall that thread.  I can't remember if I participated in it or not, but unfortunately, that's the course of a lot of good threads.  Some topics go down the tubes during certain tangents, which is a shame, really.

Terms, when I read the post you referenced, I didn't see anything in particular wrong with it, but it certainly isn't new.  Safety threads abound, which is a good thing, however, I have no real advice for anyone getting into the pro arena.  (See My reference above to the lifestyle vrs pro debate above for things that have been beaten to death.)

I appreciate the participation.

Thank you LadyPact for not reading anything upsetting into my post; and recognizing my question was sincere. My social skills are proven to be clumsy. I have been asked about Aspergers; love their fries, sandwitches, not so much. Smilies everywhere.

Madame4a -> RE: Lack of imagination (3/6/2008 5:53:55 AM)

I think you're probably right.. in the short time I've been here, I've noticed so much rehashing of the same things.  In addition, while I'm new to collarme, I'm not new to leather -- and honestly, a lot of topics are very basic.  I don't mind helping out, but I tend not to even read them as I've answered the question a million times other places, I've taught on it, or someone else has given the answer I would.

As to complaining -- I remarked in a thread last night that I didn't quite understand complaining unless it was going to get you somewhere (free dinner).  For the most part, complaining will not get you anywhere except out the door.

Maybe we need to start a few new threads?

Enjoy everyone posting here... thoughtful responses and all.. thanks

Leatherist -> RE: Lack of imagination (3/6/2008 5:55:01 AM)

If you want a post that will go for fifty pages just post a topic called

FAT, FAT, THE WATERAT !!!!!!!!![image]http://www.collarchat.com/image/s2.gif[/image]

SunNMoon -> RE: Lack of imagination (3/6/2008 6:11:21 AM)

I personally feel that this is just the natures of message boards. They seem to go through the same series of topics every couple of months. Every once in awhile there will be something that’s really different and a pleasure to read but mostly it’s the same set of topics.

I do think there is a fear some people have about posting their personal relationships and experience thus related, mostly do to the snarkiness that can occur or someone coming in and saying that there relationship isn’t “true ds.” I like Red don’t post about my relationship but love to read about everyone else’s. I feel like I learn a lot that way.  I also my relationships still in the nice and new phase so no talking about it just yet.

I have to agree with you there, I don't post about my relationships at all here.  Not for the reasons you mention but basically for me it would be like talking to strangers, and it wouldn't be fair to anyone I am involved with.  I have this ridiculously prudish streak about airing dirty laundry.  *grin*

MistressNoName -> RE: Lack of imagination (3/6/2008 6:29:50 AM)

I totally agree with you, LadyPact. I've felt from time to time that some of the insidious repetition we often see here is due to more and more newer folks joining in and perhaps not realizing that their question has been asked about, perhaps discussed ad nauseum even a week earlier. The other thing is that one week you're doing fine and then the next week, BOOM, something blows up in your face and you want to rant or kvetch...and someone else might've done the same on the same topic just a week or a couple days ago.

Of course, it's also true that some people lack imagination or just have loads of free time on their hands and instead of reading a good book, they type up a post.

Every once in a while I'll spot a topic that interests me and sometimes I'll post and sometimes not. The times that I won't post are usually when there has already been a lot of talk on the thread and others have expressed what I would have and I feel it unnecessary to post one more "what she/he said"-type post. Although, there are always exceptions to every rule.

Generally speaking, though, in a society where most are followers and very few are leaders and innovators, originality will tend to be very few and far between.

Yup... some days it just seems like there's nothing new under the sun on the whole darn Internet. There even seems to be a cyclical nature to it... a handful of people will carry their personal grudge (or, worse, their witless flirting) into every thread for a while, then they'll get bored or kicked off. A bunch of clueless newbies will all come on at once, then after a couple of questions that have been asked a million times the new TV season will start, and they'll all be gone. Meanwhile, the interesting stuff is always there... just harder to find.

I do have the same prudish streak but I do love hearing about other people’s dirty laundry at times it just makes my life seem so very boring.  Which is probably a good thing. *wink*

So very true. [:)]

Kitte9 -> RE: Lack of imagination (3/6/2008 7:15:25 AM)

I think that part of the problem arises from the fact that many people are not aware of the search engine provided by the forum. It was some time before I realized it was there, and it has been a great help to me, and to you, I suspect, in that I don't make as many repeat posts. I now check the search first.

Madame4a -> RE: Lack of imagination (3/6/2008 7:20:30 AM)

Absolutely, bring it on... I love hearing about everyone else's stuff *grin*  part of that prudish streak.  I think its the only part of me that is a voyeur.

LadyLynx -> RE: Lack of imagination (3/6/2008 8:26:38 AM)

personally I like most of the threads asking for ideas, and Gods know I've posted at least one topicasking for ideas.  Sometimes ya just get stuck.  I am tired of the debates too, and alot of the 'repeater' threads.

Not completely. You just need to know where to find it. ::winks::
