Who here uses thier nick for more than just being online? And how did you come by it?

I chose my sn to be obvious about the things I'm immediately asked when someone contacts me...sex, orientation and location. I left age out, since that's probably the ONLY thing ever changing. [:D]

My other name has Detroit, instead of Michigan, for location. And people still ask..."Where are you from?" "Are you a Top?

I only use the SN online. I sign e-mail and posts by my first initial, and use my full first name when out and about.

K

ChereeAmoor -> RE: Nicks (9/24/2005 11:00:25 AM)

My screen name here is for no other reason than having majored in French in college - my other screen name, Laughing Badger, is from an IRL nickname that I got for my stunning similarity to those cuddly, sweet-natured darling creatures, coupled with a truly wretched sense of humor.

HalloweenWhite -> RE: Nicks (9/24/2005 12:09:52 PM)

I use mine offline. Its from a line in a song.

HalloweenWhite.

This thread has probably been posted many times before but what the hell. Who here uses thier nick for more than just being online? And how did you come by it?

My screen name/scene nick is now based on my real name, Geoff. Unfortunately, having gotten started online rather late in life, it seems that "Geoff" as a nick has been taken in pretty much every forum I have been on. Sooooooo... I tacked the "Evil" part on to differentiate from the other, more 'nilla Geoff's already out there. *chuckles*

Em's met me, even had the chance to see me play (though I don't know if she was paying any attention at all to me at the time...) So maybe she can vouche for the "Evil" part as well as the Geoff part... *LOL*

I "retired" my previous scene/screen nick a bit over a year ago, after my youngest child reached 18 years. For several years before that, I used a scene/screen nick as a layer of anonymity. My visitation rights could have been yanked by Family Court if my "minor children" were exposed to my life style.

I started using Hamilton vanZander because A) Hamilton was part of a nom de plume I had used off and on but it had no connection to my real name, and B) to my inner "ear" vanZander had this nice "Old World class" feel to it. Hamilton vanZander got shortened to HamiltonZ very quickly. Then, after a few months in this one particular OL community, I was "awarded" the title "Lord" in a rather nice OL ceremony in honor of my contributions to that particular community.

LordHamiltonZ remained my scene nick everywhere, online and off, for several years because I'm a firm believer in "one nick per customer". To quote Popeye: "I yams what I yams". My family and business associates always knew me as Geoff though.

The longer I was involved in the realtime Scene, the more uncomfortable I became with the "LordHamiltonZ" nick, though. It really started to seem silly and pretentious to me. But I had created it and felt I had to live with it. Until the youngest turned 18, then I felt free to "retire" the nick and start over again.

And there you go... Why Geoff is "EvilGeoff" here (Evil_Geoff in most other forums, collarme wouldn't let me use the _ inbetween....).

YIK,
- Geoff

krazysubbiekat -> RE: Nicks (9/24/2005 7:27:44 PM)

My nick is a variation of my old nilla nickname...krazykat. My given name is Katherine; krazy kat was given to me by maternal grandmother. The so widely hated subbie is my personal way of not taking myself too seriously.

I do kat in r/l...it seems to fit me. Very few people actually call me anything but kat.

Having the "chance" to watch someone scene is hardly fair given that the person in question was involved in and coming down from an amazing inverted suspension scene!

But you certainly are sharp as a razor when it comes to the board room.

Rayne58 -> RE: Nicks (9/25/2005 1:33:28 AM)

When I first started online I used the name Bandit, just because it appealed to me. If that was taken I just added "58" to it, or "nz" for where I used to live (New Zealand).

Recently I've started using Rayne because it's part of my real first name, and Master's grandchildren call me Nanny Rayne[:D] The 58 part is the year I was born. I run a msn site for bi ladies over 35, and I'm known as Rayne there too.

Actually today Master called me Rayne instead of my real name [:)] When we went to our first play party a couple of months ago I used it then too. I think it's becoming a sticky![:D]

imtempting -> RE: Nicks (9/25/2005 3:39:26 AM)

I use it only for this site..

subkitten32 -> RE: Nicks (9/25/2005 3:53:32 AM)

I have always used subkitten as my online nick for BDSM, most people in the scene call me kitten or by my real name Ann. I only use subkitten for chat, e-mail etc. And my real name for the rest of my real life...lol

kitten

ehlovindom -> RE: Nicks (9/25/2005 8:02:58 AM)

I use my nick for online sites such as this and my yahoo and msn. I am not into the "capital letters" thing so hopefully by using all small caps it tells people I am not some protocol droid, (not that there is anything wrong with that!) As for my name, since I am a Canuck (and proud of it, at times) instead of using the word "A" before lovindom, I used our wonderfully symbolic Canadian expression of "eh". As for not having a "g" in the word loving, I was hoping for a more off-the-cuff slang easy-going attitude.

Damn, I hate psychoanalyising my name on a Sunday morning!
