Shannon Hoon, of Blind Melon, will be celebrated at his vigil tomorrow night. Things officially kick off at sundown at the Dayton cemetery in Dayton, Indiana (five minutes outside of Lafayette. Shannon went to my highschool, by the way). It is an amazing opportunity to remember a visionary man and his music, both of which brought much needed love and beauty into this world. Some will remember him as a talented musician, some as a friend, some as a lover, some as a father, some as a son. He was so many things to so many people. He brought so much hope and happiness into this world. What better way to honor his loving spirit than to gather in his memory? There will be tears, there will be smiles, there will be sadness and laughter, there will be pain, there will be music, there will be joy, all for a man who has changed so many lives. You have touched us all with your music, your words, your gentle wisdom. We miss you, Shannon, but we know you are still here with us. After all, you wrote your words on the face of today. Truly, you live still, through them. Your voice could never be silenced. In loving memory of Shannon Hoon. Happy Birthday. We love you. "Change" by Blind Melon "I don't feel the suns comin' out today its staying in, its gonna find another way. As I sit here in this misery, I don't think I'll ever, oh lord, see the sun from here. And oh as I fade away, they'll all look at me and say, and they'll say, Hey look at him! I'll never live that way. But that's okay they're just afraid of change. When you feel life ain't worth living you've got to stand up and take a look around you then look way up to the sky. And when your deepest thoughts are broken, keep on dreaming boy, cause when you stop dreamin' it's time to die. And as we all play parts of tomorrow, some ways we'll work and other ways we'll play. But I know we all can't stay here forever, so I want to write my words on the face of today. and then they'll paint it. And oh as I fade away, they'll all look at me and say, and they'll say, Hey look at him and where he is these days. When life is hard, you have to change. "
