I don't require hearing someone on the phone, but it is a different venue with certain perks. For one thing, people learn very fast that I'm every bit in real life as I appear in these rectangular boxes. Now, if someone did want to talk on the phone, sure, I'd give them my number. Already done that here on CM, and it happened to be rather enjoyable. Skype is a viable alternative to giving out your number, for those who have privacy issues or who don't want the calling expense. Done Skype as well, also found it enjoyable. I will ask someone if they wish to talk on the phone, on occasion, but I certainly wouldn't push it. Ya likes it or ya don't.
