  China will tighten its controls over foreign singers and other performers after Icelandic singer Bjork shouted "Tibet! Tibet!" at a Shanghai concert last weekend, the Ministry of Culture said on Friday.
Bjork chanted the name of the Chinese-ruled Himalayan region after performing her song "Declare Independence," which she has used in the past to promote independence movements in other places such as Kosovo.
The performance "not only broke Chinese laws and regulations and hurt the feelings of Chinese people, but also went against the professional code of an artist," the ministry said in a statement quoted by the official Xinhua news agency.

'Professional code' of an artist?   That somehow reminds me of the PMRC... (thank goodness none of them are trying to regain the reins of power).

Considering her accent it would have sounded more like 'Shriek Shirek Shiek' and no one would have understood her anyway.[8|]

PlayfulOne -> RE: Shut up or don't play yer guitar (3/8/2008 3:50:54 PM)

The US in not harassing China over anything.  Have we ever seen Bush blasting the Chinese for anything?  The Chinese buy the bonds that fund the war.  We will all have tags that say "leased to China".

Termyn8or -> RE: Shut up or don't play yer guitar (3/8/2008 5:06:55 PM)

In the Termy tradition I have another slant on this. I am not saying this is my personal believe or opinion on what should happen, I am simply putting this forth as an opinion, not something causes me to have a position. Sorry best way I can put it ;

I think that in today's day and age the Tibetans might want to reconsider their desire for independence. Alot of these smaller countries have realized that they need a bully country on their side these days.

Think about that. And think about the meddling that Europeans have done, back when Lord Kurzon claimed there were hoards of Russian troops amassed there, and in the tradition of the species, wrecked the place. Then the Chinese came. The Chinese claimed an easy victory because the Tibetans were already descimated.

The suppresion of contrary ideas has been going on for a long time. It happens here in the supposed land of the free and the home of the brave. On the government end we got trials for heresy, sedition, and all that, but one important thing people forget, is censorship practiced by the people themselves.

So how are the Tibetans ? Does their government's alliance with a world superpower benefit them or harm them ? If the have any natural resources of note, they might be better off sticking with big brother.

That's planet Earth, third rock from the sun. And we are the moss.
