Level -> Israel: we will not act alone on Iraq (3/8/2008 6:29:53 AM)

quote:

Israel will not consider unilateral action to stop Iran getting a nuclear bomb, President Shimon Peres was quoted as saying on Saturday.

In an interview with France's Le Figaro newspaper ahead of a trip to Paris next week, Peres said, however, if economic sanctions failed to persuade Iran to stop its contested nuclear program then "non-military options would be used up."

The United Nations has imposed sanctions on Iran to pressure it to suspend uranium enrichment.

Yeah, but if you were inserting deep cover agents into the research programs themselves, you'd say the same thing.

I suspect that 1 of every 20 staff members throughout the entire Iranian research program are either agents themselves, or feeding information to agents.

I'd like to know how many there are. And I wonder if they could sabotage the Iranian efforts?

How often has UN sanctions ever had an effect that stopped a country from doing something?

The track record doesn't look good, Orion: http://www.cfr.org/publication/12045

Exactly Level. If the UN wants countries to actually have faith in taking care of problems, then they need to get a little more stern than taking an offending country's candy away.

Seems to me all this is scaremongering. Iran and any other country trying to get the bomb is quite rational to me, after all, it is the only sure way of protecting oneself from western interference, aggression and exploitation.

There is no need to point out, it is western countries that consistently interfer in, attacks and generally bullies other countries. It is western troops in everyone elses country not the other way round.

If I am wrong, please tell me of a none western country that has troops in a western country.

Now that Mitt Romney has flopped, I assumed we'd had the last of this sanctions nonsense.

If I was in dispute with my neighbour and he had assaulted me in the past, I would be worried if he acquired an illegal gun.  I might set about getting myself one.  If the unblemished guardians of the law sought to prevent me doing so, I would ask why they were not so efficient at removing my neighbours gun in the first instance.
