and any of that has to do with what?  Newsflash for you,  the oil prices are on the global market.  Everybod is paying over $100 a barrel not just imports into the US.  Hitches and problems in Iraq cause problems in the entire Arab oil producing world.

HAve you not noticed that whenever there is a large offensive, or a large attack by the "insurgents" in Iraq oil prices jump?  Thre has been a fear for a long time no that things will spill out of Iraq and oil flows will be disrupted.  Our dear president doesn't help that with the posturing toward Iran.

Couple that with the weak dollar and you have oil prices that are way out of wack with supply.

What I would find hilarious is that you try and equate global prices to some list of who imports what into the US.

What I find funny in all of this are people like you who blame bush and the war for every little jump in prices. Seems we had a hurricane shut down many refineries recently.....seems that there are some south american oil countries about to go to war....all of which affect the market for oil. Yet y'all just like to point at bush as the bad man who raised your gas prices. Why not look at exxon? Read what Bull said. The companies LOVE that you're blaming bush. And bush doesn't care that he's the fall guy. When do you think is the last time he even PUMPED his own gas? He's going to be just fine, blame or not. Meanwhile, while you focus on him, the companies are posting and continue to post record profits while we suffer.

If there ever were truly a war 'for oil,' it wouldn't be with iraq.....it would be against exxxon and mobile and all the other companies gleefully strangling the populace while they drink crystal.

A hurricane shutting down refineries, if by recently you mean several years ago, then yes I guess you could call that recent..

Funny I never insulted you, but those who have no argument usually do that because they have nothing else to fall back on.

Gas prices are what they are becvause oil is over $100 a barrel.  That has nothing to do with anything being shut down, especially ones that were shut down several years ago.  Have the oil companies taken advantage, sure.  But the head man made the mess, the market is just following.

I would LOVE for you to point out where I hurled anything remotely resembling an insult at you.

Well, hmmmm the iraq war began FIVE YEARS ago....and Hurrican Katrina hit the refineries in 2005. So, all things considered, I'd say the hurricane was...at least "mathmatically" more recent than the start of "bush's war."

Also, the border tension between Venezuela and Columbia began ummm....last week.

Sooooooo yeah. I'd say those are fairly more recent than the start of a war with a country that only ranks number 7 on our list of oil importers (which, by the way is still importing oil to us as of December's figures).

The cost of oil has nothing to do with the potatohead in the oval office, either. If anything, it's because of china's increasing industrialization and because the companies know they can get that much for it and have no problems whatsoever about making the lil guy eat the cost.

PlayfulOne -> RE: Jon Stewart on Bush and $4 a Gallon for Gas (3/9/2008 5:12:16 AM)

Your too funny, you can believe what you want even when your wrong.

Oil prices didn't jump after Katrina, a refinery being closed has no bearing on the price of "OIL".   The prices have nothing to do with supply and demand, nothing to do with how much oil the Chinese are using.  How can that be you say?  Read and repeat slowly,  THERE IS NO SHORTAGE OF OIL, there is no supply and demand reason for oil to be above $100 a barrel. Thats why when Bush acted like a child and begged the Saudis to pump more oil they looked at him and said "Why?", everybody has all of the oil they need.  Gas prices are where they are because of the oil prices, not any refinery problems.

Venezuela and Columbia, thats a blip on the map.  The worry is always a disruption in the middle east.  people are trying to make money in the spec market, driving up the price.  Why, because they want to hold the oil options so if that disruption comes they can sell for even higher prices.   That instability comes from the actions and policy of the "potatohead" (as youi pu it) in office.

DMFParadox -> RE: Jon Stewart on Bush and $4 a Gallon for Gas (3/9/2008 5:46:03 AM)

Everyone in the damned country should be investing in oil commodities/futures.  A) we'd be recouping our loss, and B) We'd make it too damned unprofitable to keep driving up the price of oil because of the crowded field of unit owners/sellers trying to turn a buck.   You want a direct, easy solution to our woes?  Be a fucking AMERICAN and make profit on your own market, instead of a bunch of Chinese investers that are taking advantage of the fact that the current average American is taking their markets for granted, and essentially ignoring their own responsibility to get involved.  It's not an exclusive club.

While you're at it, start going short on the Dollar, too.  Halt that downward trend in its tracks.

What's your advice to people with no capital?

Since *most* of the population is in debt, your suggestion while relevant might not cover very many people.

That's hilarious.

An oil futures contract is for 1000 barrels of crude. So right now buying a single delivery contract costs over $100k. While a crude oil futures option contract is much less expensive it is a much more complicated investment device and an easy way to throw a lot of money away. Furthermore increasing demand, by way of introducingmany new buyers into the futures market, is exactly the opposite of what should drive prices down.

It's "you're" not "your." And I'm still waiting for you to show me where I insulted you. As for being wrong. You would know all about being wrong, since you are so very much.

This has got to be one of the funniest things I've ever heard. You are so blinded by your dislike for bush that you blame everything on him. How can one man "tell" the oil companies to raise the oil prices? You think one war that he started would have this effect?

Please. Can someone else here help this person out or is this a lost cause?

that had California black and browning out,

You do understand that the Enron issue and actively taking energy plants off-line in order to drive energy prices up was caused by two things.

1)  Deregulation

2)  Greed.

I live in California, I have heard all the bitching by idiot talk show hosts who blame Grey Davis, but if you actually do your homework you will find the truth.

Sinergy

p.s.  What always fascinates me is how the people on the Right dont realize that the people selling deregulation have greed as their goal, and yet these cretins vote to deregulate things.

p.p.s.  It is pretty amusing when things dont work out like they hope, their knee jerk reaction is to blame Carter.

luckydog1 -> RE: Jon Stewart on Bush and $4 a Gallon for Gas (3/10/2008 12:30:26 AM)

Sinergy, I was not blaming Carter. That is just your knee jerk answer to everything huh?  kind of sad, but I guess you have to make some sort of words in response, even though they don't deflect from the point I made at all, by accusing me of something I didn't say.

But it seems to impress some of the girls, so I understand why you keep doing it.
