alot of what the home security companies do is hire out local telemarkerting companies to scan the newspapers for them to see what the level of home robberies are in that area.once they find a significant ammount of robberies they then have these telemarketing comapnies call around in those areas.it's how they make their money and yes they do this by generating fear from homeowners. i can't tell you how many calls we had to make at that job including the line "your neighborhood just had a string of robberies. (HO: yes but we have a dog. (TM well what i the burglar gets to your dog before you know what's happening?" (HO: well we have a gun. (TM: well what if they get to the gun before you do?................so on and so fourth, that's when they seal the deal and yet another home security system gets installed.
