sillyfool -> Dragon Tails (3/9/2008 3:17:57 PM)

i am looking into buying a single dragon tail whip but i would like some general advice.  What i am wanting to add to my collection is basically a single tail whip much like the items i see named a dragon tail or a simon legree.  At first i just wanted to experience any single tail but after doing some research i want to stay away from bull whips or items with crackers that need to be replaced by the maker.  i would like to know Y/your experiences with single tails and possibly point me in a direction.  More specifically things to look for and things to stay away from. (besdies the basic, "you get what you pay for") my currently collection contains a suede mop, a kangaroo flogger, various rattan and synth canes, a cuban quirt, various wide and narrow ended crops, various paddles and leather slappers. i think the next step and what i have been most interested in lately is a single tail.  Would Y/you advise there be a differnet next step?  Or a different single tail rather than a dragon tail?

Can A/anyone point me in the right direction?

Thanks  ~sillyfool

I'm not sure if this is a helpful comment, but last month my partner purchased a dragon's tail from these fine people at an event and it's probably one of my favorite toys now. It's suede and single tailed; can be stingy or pack a thud, all depending on how you use it. I'm not sure if they sell their products online or not. It's worth taking a peek, in the least.

Goodluck.

When someone in this lifestyle refers to a "single tail" they are usually refering to a modified signal whip (leather whip originally used by dog sledders).  A dragon tail or dragons tounge is something compleetly diffrient, so even though it has a single fall, its not a "single tail".  They dont have as much control and once they get broken in past a certain point, I dont think they are very effective.  If you still want a dragons tail/tongue http://www.wian-studios.com/leather.html sells them.  Its a quality vendor that makes everything by hand.

DragonTails are more of a cross between a flogger and a short whip.  It's a single and generally fairly wide fall that can be "snapped" (like a locker room towel) or also applied in a more thuddy manner.  You won't get the signal you would from a whip, but you can still get a damn good bite out of it if needed or wanted.

sillyfool -> RE: Dragon Tails (3/11/2008 7:45:16 AM)

SNoB, i am wanting a new experience different than the experienced caused by the implements i already have.  i have been thinking about and visualizing items that are 'single tailed'.  Some items that sparked my curiosity were items that i saw on paintoy.com videos and thetrainingofo.com.  If you think you could put a name to a whip/flogger by seeing it i can try and hunt down a specific clip that shows the items i am visualizing.

Is there something else you would recommend?

Also, thank you ThunderRoad =)

As i sell dragons " the longer and snakes " the shorter" tails these are a multi function tool . A dragons  tail for example  can be used for a thudy folded in 1/2 tool , a single tail , a gag , a take down instrument are some  ideas . They can be made from many materials , and when the ends do frey a touch a lil trimming is all thats needed .a good dragons tail can splay flesh  but quick ,or it can leave lil kiss 's .Care should be used as Yes it is a single tail .And any who have been popped in PE by the expert towel marksman shall attest too .ahheeem this is a much harsher tool  than the common rat tailed  towel  but a good comparison .

I will be glad to help.

Also another thing between a single tail and a dragons tongue, is that the single tail can be used in a continous motion, creating a very rythmic session if that is what is desired.  Alot of people enter sub space better with a good steady rythem.

ThunderRoad -> RE: Dragon Tails (3/11/2008 10:32:36 AM)

Personally, I'm able to get a good rhythm going with a pair of floggers going florentine (either 4- or 6-strike methods, 8-strike isn't working too well) and generally lull the target fairly quickly into subspace.  One of my charges wants something a little harsher, though, so for her a dragon tail will definately be in our future.  Probably pick one up at our next event.

I've also been thinking about a pair of fairly short whips.  Maybe a handle about the length of a drumstick and the rope about 1.5x that size.  I figure I can kneel down behind the target on a cross and just do some quick "flick flick flick flick" rythms to get a little more targeted sensation than I can with a flogger, and still be able to work in the cramped space common in a public or home dungeon.  Think of it as more as a pair of a single-fall floggers.

In the end, it's really not about how HARD you hit someone, but it's about how softly you can hit someone.  Anyone can leave a welt or open flesh, but if you can barely kiss someone and still leave them in mortal fear (from the signal crack or even the whistle through the air) of what they will see when the blindfold comes off, then you've achieved mastery.

Thank you for the Wian Studios link, SNoB.
Their products look top notch and the prices are quite reasonable.

SNoB -> RE: Dragon Tails (3/11/2008 11:45:01 PM)

I have 3 floggers from them, have met them and talked to them at a few events.  Thier products are top notch and they stand behind them 100%.  I havent seen any floggers better than WIAN.

MisPandora -> RE: Dragon Tails (3/15/2008 7:04:41 AM)

I have the rolled-style dragon tails from Achella (www.achella.com) and ToolWorksChicago (www.toolworkschicago.com) and love all three of them :-)  I buy direct from the vendor in person, so their websites may not have exactly what you're looking for.  Don't hesistate to drop them an email and describe it if you don't see something you're looking for on a website!

TwistedLeather -> RE: Dragon Tails (3/22/2008 12:01:37 AM)

Every whip is different, even if it's called the same thing by different vendors, depending on what materials went into making it. Whether or not it has a core, if the ends are knotted off or backwoven, how many strands there are in the braid, what type of tassel it's ended with (if one at all), does it have a fall? And even the length of the whip, or the width of the lacing used to make it. Whew! That was a mouthful. Point is, everything can affect the feel and functionality of a whip. Not to mention, how they're used can affect them. Their balance, their over all weight, the length and width of the handle... Or if it's a loaded butt or a stock handle! Whether it's being thrown or over-handed, etc. Your head spinning yet??

My best advice, and what i tell anyone i'm talking to about constructing a whip, is to go out and get a feel for what you're looking for before you decide what to get. And take someone else with you! You can feel the whip yourself, or get a feel for the swing (if the vendors will let you swirl it around). And if you're lucky enough to encounter someone in your local area that makes whips, see if they'll take the time to let you feel the various makes and models that they can make, and even rough something together as a make shift so you can see if it feels right.

You can get some really nice stuff online, but if you haven't seen the exact item first hand, it may not be exactly what you want once you've gotten it. Too hard, too soft, not enough bite, too much sting, no thump... you get the idea.

Play parties are good for seeing what's out there- and talking to people who can pull one out of the bag.

As someone who loves to be hit with these things- So what if the cracker needs to be serviced by a whipmaker? If you use it correctly, a signal whip cracker will last years. You want a shot loaded 16 plait kangaroo, about 4 feet. That's a starter, but high quality signal whip. There are drills to learn it with, it needs break in, and it's a thing of beauty when a master of it applies it to, say, the soft inner thigh (eyes glaze over with lust).

A dragon tail is suede or garment leather in an isoceles trianle rolled up. I love them! 48 hours after the marks look like red and purple roses, lovely! The suede is gentler but hell to clean, the garment leather with a harder surface lasts longer and cleans. And yes- you need to clean your whips.
I made mine, but Achella's are lovely. Easy whip to do yourself. I wouldn't call it a single tail- different class of throwing, marking, sensation.

Yes, a sub with whips. More fun to train with than aerobics class, and playmates appreciate that I bring things I really like to be hit with... Fun for everyone.

SNoB -> RE: Dragon Tails (3/23/2008 10:52:16 PM)

It seems a growing trend for bottoms to carry their own toy bags these days.  I have to say I love it, you know what they like to be hit with, they dont have the thought in the back of their mind "who has he used this on, and has he cleaned it properly".  It also takes the pressure off of the tops to have "everything" inside of their bag of tricks.

deliciousmorsel -> RE: Dragon Tails (3/24/2008 2:34:34 AM)

SNoB, that's exactly my thought... and why I have my own goodies. I doubt a Dom will comission hot pink cuffs from Griffin, would it ever occur to you?LOL But having my own, they feel more special- part of dressing up on Saturday Night. [:D] Who needs a Gucci bag?
But you guys can still bring the complicated hardware store? Clips and chains are bewildering; besides, Dominate cleverness at bondage is hot!
I have my own rope, a lot of things just because of germs and things that go around. Every girl needs her own personal insertables and rope and cuffs, and then yes- we know where they've been! And my cuffs fit me.

I think I understand some confusion here. There's the Dragon's Tongue that's a rolled up piece of leather, there's the Patterson Singletail which is a signal or snake(?) type whip with a large "tongue" shape on the end, and then there's a lot of copies of the Patterson whips called, erroneously, Dragon ect.'s.

You pretty much have to learn a signal whip and good flogging to throw the Patterson; actually, you need to crack a signal well to impress the ladies. I know, that would be me (smirks charmingly). Google for Patterson Singletail, I can't find the link, but it's very abrasive. The big leaf or tongue on the end is tanned on one side and rough on the other. I've never been hit with one but I'd hope the man throwing it had excellent control. It's an advanced toy. They run from 2 to 5 feet, and watching somebody use the big one is impressive.
The copies on Ebay are actually a type of quirt- and very interesting, too. They look great for the sweet spot on ones backside (heh heh) and I bet are easier to control. They're shorter and the body is made differently. There's a lot of things out there with tongues on the end now, all fun, but different... But not Dragons tongues or tails. The tail is the rolled leather, the tongue is rolled with the end cut into two points like a snake tongue.

deliciousmorsel -> RE: Dragon Tails (3/24/2008 3:09:47 AM)

Ok, I will stand corrected if need be- I was taught the Wian Dragons tail is something else I can't remember the name of because they're not much fun, at least in my circle... But it's all a matter of taste. That's some mighty heavy leather to pop a girl with- and I like to be hit with Big Leather and rattan. But I have my doubts about that thing.
I wouldn't call that a beginners toy. No slack for misjudging the distance with it. You can actually injure girls, you know. Nobody wants to talk about it, but it happens. You might want to learn on lighter whips first. People who do fetish porn have done the time training with the tools.
