And was someone earlier on actually questioning what happened in regards to Iraq and the PNAC? The president's real goal in Iraq http://www.informationclearinghouse.info/article2319.htm This was always about a power grab, overweening greed, and lobbying from the multitude of businesses that suck from the taxpayer teat as the military industrial complex. It's funny how GOP members are backpedaling on 8 years of "Bush Jr., the Destroyer." "He's not a real conservative" they say. "It's too bad he listened to those darned Neo-cons" they say. Children, he conned you the moment you voted him in. The GOP has been conning you for at least half a century. Stop blaming someone else. When we progressives vote Democratic at least we do so with a jaundiced eye and with a desire to scrutinize our candidates every future move. It's not that we love the Dems and think they are beyond reproach - far from it, we reproach them their corporate ties continually. We are probably harsher critics of them than any GOP whored out commentator ever was. We know that politics isn't just a horse race between two parties that don't actually matter at all, and that it's really about controlling our government representatives and attempting to build a better world for ourselves, the rest of the world in peace, and for all future generations. What politics really isn't and shouldn't be about is these things: 1. War 2. Empire 3. Taking from the poor and middle class to give to the rich, in what I call "Reverse Robin Hood." Again, I exhort you to wake up!

Ron: 7 years ago I saw all of this bullshit for what it was. 9/11, the anthrax scare, etc. - I knew it was all going to be used for a malignant purpose, if indeed it hadn't actually been engineered by those that would then benefit. I saw with a perfect 1000 yard stare what was to come. I was called un-American, a terrorist sympathizer, and a whole host of other things. For years I have tried to spread the word, to encourage greater understanding. And in the main, it's all been for nought - as evidenced routinely on these forums. The stupidity of the average American is actually appalling. We don't talk about it much because to do so is to place oneself in a position of perceived superiority. But if people understood how we are seen by the rest of the world, how politically astute the average European, Canadian, or South American actually is... ...well, we are hardly the envy of the world the way we imagine we are. In truth, they fear us. They fear our weapons. They fear our religious irrationality. And they fear our ignorance most of all.

It would be the culmination of a plan 10 years or more in the making, carried out by those who believe the United States must seize the opportunity for global domination, even if it means becoming the "American imperialists" that our enemies always claimed we were. That gets my vote because it is the only rational explanation for Iraq or it gets my vote until someone can produce a more compelling reason for Iraq.

Admiral Fallon does not support an attack on Iran, so his sudden departure is widely viewed as a prelude to Washington ordering starting a new campaign.

Hey, I'm curious about something. How much would our military budget be over this period of time if we weren't in Iraq? Would it be alot less? The same? I'm not sure where you could find the difference. Surely someone has figured that up.

Yes, it would be a lot less. There is a book called The Three Trillion Dollar War; it's by two economists, and it is still legal in this country to read it, even if it is critical of the Administration.
