HAPPY DAYS

Does this mean anything to you?

Adding: It brings back fond memories for me, only; they're not my memories.

Heyyyyy!

Oh my gosh, yes!

Same with Laverne and Shirley. We become engrossed in a TV series that characterises our lives and we identify with some of the characters. Years later, when something prompts it, we remember fondly, almost as if they were shared experiences and I guess they were - albeit remotely.

Me too, but it was the dream I saw on TV every night growing up; back then home computers were not big, possibley none existant; I don't know the history.

These days, I can't afford TV (cable). Especially if I do not want to be hand fed my news, ie; give up internet.

I actually grew up in a home that more a cross between The Waltons and Roseanne....... I always wanted to be a cross between Laverne and Fonz. Cool and in control like Fonz but brassy and obviously feminine.......kinda like Laverne. But with a touch less brass maybe.

Even as a kid I don't think I saw the television programmes as being realistic. Just a nice diversion, entertaining.

Ha, the closest one I can think of that is similiar to my growing up years would be the Beverly Hillbillies w/o the great banjo music.

It is a nice common ground. [:)]

There is a movie I love,  I can't think of the name right now, same theme and some of the same people.

They just seem so young/inocent and care free.

loved watching the waltons way back when. i wanted to live in the kind of place they did. honestly, i still want to live in that kind of place! alas, it doesn't exist.

It is indeed, Keira. When I was a child I grew up in Peckham, South East London. It's now considered a very 'rough' area yet when I was growing up there was a real community spirit. If a neighbour had to be somewhere and their baby needed taking care of, there was always one of the other neighbours on hand to do that at short-notice. As kids we could go off and amuse ourselves either after school or during school holidays and stay out until around 8pm at night and KNEW we'd be safe. Everyone looked out for each other and I remember the fun we'd have putting on lip gloss we'd just gotten, and sitting around laughing as we discussed our latest 'crushes'. And should we receive that prized first kiss - immortalised!

I definitely related more with Laverne then Shirley, also.

I was born in “69”. In the seventies, I was told to smile on my brother; who was a mean SOB. By the early eighties, I was a latch-key-kid; my brother wasn’t any nicer. I was told to be an individual, as long as I was like everyone else in doing so.

I can’t think of a show that accurately describes the environment I grew up in, but my perception of it was much like “Hell Raiser”. Talk about mixed singles.

I’m sure I thought that once upon a time, things were really like that, but I knew it wasn’t my reality.

MissMorrigan,

Sounds very nice.

I grew up in a very rural area and my parents weren’t keen on having company (not that we didn't sneak some near by neighbor kids over when we were left alone); but, with a little help from nature, and it is amazing the places one’s imagination can take them.

The 50s lifestyle has jumped the shark.

I grew up a dreamin' of bein' a cowboy and lovin' a cowboys ways.........

Ridin' the life of my high ridin' heros, I burned up my childhood days........

Lashra -> RE: The dreams I grew up on (3/10/2008 12:53:01 PM)

I used to love Laverne and Shirley. Laverne was kind of an idol while I viewed Shirley as a whimp a lot of the time. Lenny and Squiggy used to crack me up. I used to imagine they were Laverne's slave boys...yes even at a young age I was perverted[;)]

kittinSol -> RE: The dreams I grew up on (3/10/2008 1:07:34 PM)

Here's a joyful little tune to bring everybody's spirit up:

Last night I dreamt
That somebody loved me
No hope, no harm
Just another false alarm

Last night I felt
Real arms around me
No hope, no harm
Just another false alarm

So, tell me how long
Before the last one ?
And tell me how long
Before the right one ?

The story is old - I know
But it goes on
The story is old - I know
But it goes on

The Smiths

SugarMyChurro -> RE: The dreams I grew up on (3/10/2008 1:14:29 PM)

Wait!

I thought Robt. Smith was the saddest boy in the world. Now it's fucking Morrissey?

The disillusionment continues...
