MalcolmVice -> Art of Seduction, Lack Thereof (3/10/2008 12:13:52 PM)

This, my friends, is what seduction looks like:

http://video.google.co.uk/videoplay?docid=-3016961507026532785&q=dancescape+TV&total=133&start=0&num=10&so=0&type=search&plindex=6

I wrote in my journal lamenting the lack of genuine female seduction in this day and age; I wondered if anyone else agreed.

I like the way she moved her lips.

I disagree. While the dance is nice, she does not seem to have passion in her eyes or moves. She is rather stiff and I dont find her to be seductive. Now take the dance and give it to a woman with real passion, say, Sophia Loren or Marilyn Monroe. WOW then it would be real seduction.

maybe in your world, but not Mine.

I see your point, however for some reason the fact she seems sort of distanced makes it more intriguing for me.

I think this clip of Rita Hayworth is hypnotising: it's the one where she peels off her gloves... omg.

Ah yes, that's more to my taste.

I see your Rita Hayworth, and raise you Grace Kelly in Rear Window. Alas, I could not find the clip of her emerging from the bedroom in her nightgown, but this should suffice:

In reference to the OP:

Speaking as a bellydancer... this is a really sensitive subject for a lot of us.

Bellydancing itself is not meant to be seductive.  The image of a sultan sitting on a throne surrounded by scantily-clad harem girls just ain't real, sadly.  I think when they said "exotic bellydancing demonstration" they meant unusual, foreign, etc., not in the same way as an "exotic dancer" because it didn't look to me like a burlesque routine or a routine intended to arouse.

It's actually an insult to a lot of us when people watch us dance (in a celebration of life, health, and femininity, for some it's even a spiritual thing) and then are like "LOL SEXY UR HOT."  We appreciate that we're nice to look at, but dear God, it'd be nice for people to view it as a legitimate cultural art form rather than seduction.

That being said, there are certainly some bellydancing/burlesque combination routines that are simply amazing and really meant to seduce, where saying "oh man, that was hot" would be encouraged and appropriate.

Just popping in with my .02 here.  I don't think you intended to say that all bellydancers were lolhotstripperz or anything, but I just wanted to diffuse that stereotype before it began.

Hmm, you have a point, and honestly I didn't mean to offend, though I must protest at being compared to the common youtube commenter...

I would like to think I was appreciating a display of sincere feminity, being a red-blooded male I probably appreciate that feminity in a different way to a hetero female *grin* but I very definitely was not perving, nor was I inviting it. There is a difference.

Does that suffice?

Ah, there will always be a place in my heart for Marilyn, and her enormous.... personality.... but one can only eat so many greasy burgers before one craves hauté cuisine ;)

The key word there being 'hawwwt'

Suffices just fine, no harm, no foul.  I just aim to educate whenever possible, and your appreciation is much... well, appreciated.  :P

I think you can have sedution in a look, a flick of the hair, I have certainly seen seductive women in my day to day life and I would like to think that I have been the seductress on occasion, i dont belly dance (i did do salsa for a while but that was to get fit)

Maybe seduction is differant now because its not so coy but you can still see it in day to day life

Ahh I see you got to it before I did.. thank you.

Ditto.. what she said. Thanks for not being the typical person about that.. and for being cool.

Some of the more Burlesque style dancers are indeed ment to seduce... but in traditional Beldi dancing that was not the intent.

Then you also get into "American Tribalized" style... and we could just go on and on.

Personaly the girl in the vid was too disconnected emotionaly and a bit too gothy chick for me.

If you put in "pole dancing" in Youtube.. you will be *amazed* there are some true artists out there.

I love dance in all of it's forms. ( no I don't pole dance... though I did teach it back in "the day" )

Here is a dance to be impressed with. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YamDoDK71Ds

Gwyn,
who loves all of the starlets
