One of nature's scariest killing machines............next to Chuck Norris, of course.

Gretchen and I once watched a show that came up with the housecat as the most viscious killer.

It's the only (non-human) creature alive that doesn't kill for any reason, other than for sadistic pleasure.

Why, you got one as a pet?

That's an unfair characterisation of cats, especially that their behaviour is deliberately sadistic. IIRC most carnivores do a certain amount of sport killing - more in the line of practice. The hunting urge and the hunger urge each have their own reward circuits - it's why cats and dogs play hunter even when they are not hungry.

There is a theory that the serrations on the teeth of T-Rex were not for cutting but for entangling bits of food, turning the teeth into septic syringes,  rather like the komodo's bite. Rather than being a hunter, T-Rex was mostly a carrion eater and when supplies of carcasses got short, Rex would dish out a few easy bites then reap the benefits of weakened or dead prey a few days later.
