The best way to get anime is (and has been for a long time) through the right IRC channels (if you happen to know which ones to go to), and torrents...
As far as anime torrents go, Boxtorrents is good, Animesuki is great for anything that's unlicensed.
I generally only watch series after I have the whole thing (There have been a couple exceptions, but, yeah)... I'd hate to have to wait between episodes for the next one to air, or to finish downloading it, or whatever, it's nice to just type in xine * and watch the whole series in one go (Or, you know, however many episodes before you decide to do something else)... =)
