I tend to put older hard drives into the newer computer for extra storage.  Take the memory out and sell it on eBay or give it to someone with an older computer that could use it.

The rest goes to the dump where they now have a recycling area set up for electronics.

Up in New Hampshire at some big sandpits we'd see cars, tv sets, computers and screens shot to pieces.
That's how they "recycle" up there.

~fr~
I physically transplant the hard drive and memory, recycle the rest. I keep the "classic" stuff like my old sheetmetal KayPro with the amber monitor, CP/m operating system, and 64k of RAM in case there's a nuclear war that wipes out civilization as we know it and I have to drop it on someone's head to steal their food.

If I remember correctly the EPA banned all solid state circuitry going to the dump.   It has to go to a recycler.   Reason   Lead in the soder connections poluting the ground water.   Also there is some gold in there if you know where to find it.

YUP!
I have 200 computers & 23 switches & 4 routers to get rid of... damn thats going to cost a lot if I cant get a school to pick it up.
