RumpusParable -> Piercing play/microdermals (3/14/2008 1:33:44 PM)

Hi, I just gotta share my own excitement and let a larger discussion come from it.  I'm a trained piercer and scalpel scarification artist and have a passion for temporary piercing and cutting play + permanent body modification inside and outside of play.

Today I did my first microdermal insertion, 2 of them on myself (I always guinea pig myself with a new practice then move on to others), and they went amazingly.

For those unfamiliar, microdermals are single-point peircings and are semi-permanent mods.  The consist of a dermal anchor placed under the skin that the body attaches itself to while healing and to be removed involves some minor scalpeling. The single end that exits the body can have various jewelry ends attached to it just like the end of a 2-exit-point piercing.

I'm so very looking forward to more practice, though in truth it's not really "practice" in this case because the insertion is little different from a regular piercing that I'm well familiar with, and to incorporating these into play and marking of subs/slaves (my own future ones and those of others who want it done).

Has anyone else been using these out there yet?  Related interests you'd like to chat about?  We don't often talk about piercing play and modification here compared to other topics here, so let's do!

I saw one on the piercer who did my nipples. It was in the center of his chest. Mind sharing where your's are MsRumpus? ;) Do you do other piercings for other people? OOOooooo...care to write me on the other side? Gotta find out rates and all. ;)

i am highly interested in this process, but due to my rejection of everything but facial piercings (nipples and wrist surface peircings all rejected in a relatively short amount of time, and started working their way out for a total of 6 times, though i know the latter is famous for it) i am reluctant to try it until i find out more information...especially regarding healing....what would be of particular interest to me is to get 3 at the points of the triskellion/celtic knot on the back of my neck...

I know of a Body Mod professional that is doing them in Vancouver already.

Nothing I would get personally but that's cause i'm terrified of needles lol

Hiya BoiJen!  Will email you on the other side, but for here:  I have one on the back of each wrist (making me have to do one of them with my off-hand and yet it still went easy).  The only place I have the pictures hosted right now is on my IAM BME page, so only one small shot shows..... but it's here:  http://iam.bmezine.com/?RumpusParable  in the next day or two I'll be uploading better shots to my domain so I can link them better to everyone I want to share with! :)

Yep, I do for others.  I don't work in a shop here in Augusta (all except one I find too filthy to work in and that exception already has an awesome piercer that I go to myself for things) but I do a sterile job between friends and clients with my own equipment.

Chellekitty, they're still so young that rejection rates and timeframes aren't solidly known yet, but so far they've shown about a 98% success rate.  Much less stress is put on them than surface piercings, as when they say "micro" they mean micro... the anchor is less than 1/4" long and maybe 2-3mm wide.  I found the best tool for placing them was to use tweezers, they're so small.  I'll take some contrast pictures soon, too, to show just how small we're talking soon... right now the best I could find online is this:

Additionally, they're healing time is much shorter than the average surface piercing. 6-8 weeks, generally.

I found that I couldn't have a surface bar stay healthy in me and am hoping these indeed work better for me, personally.

Did you use a dermal punch?  I'd be really interested in hearing the difference between using a dermal punch and however else they do it.  My piercer uses a dermal punch and has mentioned there are other ways, but never described them.

That's really awesome though.  Microdermals are really beautiful I think.

edited to add:  I perved your picture a bmezine, love it!

RumpusParable -> RE: Piercing play/microdermals (3/14/2008 2:42:06 PM)

Haha, thanks!

No dermal punch, just a 14g needle and a scalpel (and a scalpel would only be necessary on some people, not all.  I've very tight skin without much give to it).

It basically went like this:

Make all measurements and markings.

Create entrance wound and flesh tunnel with the 14g needle just as one would with a two-hole piercing, just not making an exit wound, in the direction the anchor will be seated.

Remove needle, make slight scalpel cut in the opposite direction of seating, about 1/16" long.

Slide anchor forward into place, then seat back end.  Attach disc.

SQUICKED!

MasterBlueTiger -> RE: Piercing play/microdermals (3/14/2008 3:18:50 PM)

I think I'm somewhere in the middle. I have seen some needle pay pics and it looks kind of cool. In the past needles have made me a bit squemish. But if it was to learn a cool new trick to use on a slave(and learn all the safety precautions and such) I might be willing to give it a shot. I would proably stick to temp piercings though. Scaring and such just doesn't seem like me.

ThinkingKitten -> RE: Piercing play/microdermals (3/14/2008 5:45:08 PM)

The only question that comes to mind for me, is with such a superficial anchorage, how the heck do you avoid knocking/rubbing the blasted things out all the time, especially if they're supposed to be retained long enough for tissue to grow into/around them? And then after that - I'd still be terrified of catching the mesh sponge in them when showering for instance....."oh well, there goes another one down the drain...." Are they just meant to be very temporary?

petdave -> RE: Piercing play/microdermals (3/14/2008 5:48:25 PM)

i've been hearing about microdermals lately, but i've yet to actually see any in person. They *look* very fragile, which is a bad thing for me, because i'm pretty clumsy. i know if i got something like the ones you've done, they'd get ripped out by some random car part in less than a month (if one of my coat sleeves didn't get them first) [:o] i guess the anchor is usually invisible once they're healed, unlike most old-school implants, right?

i've had a run of piercing losses/rejections lately (i'm down to 17!!), so i've really been feeling the urge to do some more... it's like my body said, dude, you're thirty-one years old! Enough of this shit! ... and so my spirit is saying "Fuck you! More hardware!" just to be ornery.

msterfixer -> RE: Piercing play/microdermals (3/14/2008 6:33:35 PM)

My nipple peircing was rejected the first time, the second time my husband left the needle in and cut the ends of it off.  Healed just fine.  No more rejection.

Taintedblood -> RE: Piercing play/microdermals (3/15/2008 2:59:11 PM)

I love microdermals i think they are really pretty

i have had 4 andi  have none now :( I think i am too clumsy for them i will get them put back though.

i had one on my foot and someone stood on my foot on a night out and it got infected and just wouldnt heal one of the ones near my collar bone the dog decided to jump up and got it caught and part came out so had to have it cut out.  The other collar bone side wasn't in properly i dont think as it came out 24 hrs later (i can get that redonefree) and i lost a sternum one due to a towel. - there is next to no scaring either.

though my fave thing ever is my scarification i love it

littlebitxxx -> RE: Piercing play/microdermals (3/15/2008 3:55:25 PM)
