Do you remember when you lost a tooth And you were required to make a wish? Nights when you were tucked in safe and warm Forehead anointed by a mother's kiss? When you looked up at the sky at night And saw the twinkling of the brightest star And you felt so small and insignificant As you reflected and wondered just how far? When your parents hated your music And you were a slave to the latest trends? What now of the streets where you played? What now of your playground friends? Do you remember that first kiss That one great love, or so it seemed? Did you ever find the things you wanted? What happened to the dreams you dreamed? Did you ever want to be a sports star? A singer, an intellectual literary snob? What happened before you went to college? Before you had to find a job? Did you ever protest along with others? Was Che Guevara ever on your wall? And if there was a revolution Would you have really answered the call? Do you remember what you felt As you stood beside him, wedding dress so white? Have you kept the photographs? Can you still remember that first night? And as you wake up in the morning Knowing there's not enough time in the day Do you ever stop to remember What it was like before life got in the way? And as you feel the heat of summer As you walk through freshly fallen snow Do you take a moment to remember Do you ever wonder where broken dreams go? Can you remember a dream you once had? How old were you? Did you ever try and make that dream reality? And did you succeed? Did you fail? Care to share?
