bipolarber -> Dave Stevens, RIP (3/14/2008 4:08:20 PM)

I haven't seen this posted yet, so I thought I'd pass on this sad bit of news: Dave Stevens, the guy who created "The Rocketeer" (and who in no small part helped to create the revival of interest in Bettie Page by using her as a main character in that comic book) has passed away. He was 54, and finally lost his battle with lukemia.

I got to meet Dave a couple of times at the San Diego Comicon, and even have a small sketch of Bettie by him. No one could draw women like Dave could. Strong, curvy and often not to be trifled with, his girls had spunk! Dave himself struck me as a guy slightly out of his time. He seemed like he would have been much more comfortable back in 1938. Like he was a character out of an Indiana Jones or Doc Savage adventure more than a product of the post-'Nam era. He drove a vintage car, often dressed in vintage clothing, and could talk to you about the history of that time like it was yesterday to him.

You'll be missed, Dave.

Wow, that's horrible news. He was an incredible artist.
