Telephone trick from someone in the biz:

If you do not wish to simply use the call block option in your area, you can, instead, press talk and then end.  It ceases the ringing and if done quickly, can be easily explained away as a problem with your line.  If the caller persists, wait until the third ring, do as above, and repeat as necessary.  Regardless of how determined the caller is, after repeated hang-ups occurring at a set number of rings it's the nature of most to assume it's a machine error...no human could be so efficient. [;)]
