From one mistress to another I feel I must ask. Which open mouth gag is the best to use on a slave for long periods of time?

A ring gag

A Spider Gag

A plug gag

That, I think, would depend on your definition of, "long periods."

I'd go with the plug.

If you simply MUST have a mouth you can see into, maybe try a ring with a smaller diameter.

From a subs view..i don't like any of them..but i am sure you will find one you like.

Everyone's jaw bone is different regarding dexterity and shape.
Some people can't tolerate an open mouth gag, or any gag for that matter.
You have to figure this out with the person you are dealing with.

Agreed, it is not a 'one gag fits all' world.

Another option is a fish hook gag ... basically pulls the mouth open from the sides ... it's less strain on the temporomandibular joint (complex jaw joint) than an O shape, but can still produce a muscular face ache so time is a matter of individual stamina.

Something like that seems like it'd be more comfortable than a standard ring gag for long-term wear, although I'm echoing what others have said about jaw strength and dexterity varying from person to person.  Make sure they don't have TMJ, either... if they do, I'd say that an open-mouth gag is probably the last thing you want to use with them.

As a subby, I agree with DarkLovelyDomme.  My mouth is on the smaller side, so I can't take a large gag.  For an open mouth, I'd go with a padded ring gag with a smaller diameter...bigger if his/her mouth can handle it.
