Thank you Angelika. I know that sometimes my posts are short and to the point. Curt and abrupt. Possibly taken in a way that is not intended. It was meerly an observation, if one has not enjoyed sex, not wanting it would not be an issue..........for me.

Me too! Bigtime! Someday we should get together and make some craters.

Cymbalta made it impossible to orgasm for several weeks. Then, when I finally did, it was really not worth the effort. However, stalwart fellow that I am, I kept practicing, practicing, and practicing some more, and after a few more weeks I was back to normal. Still, I switched to Wellbutrin. It's alot cheaper and there's that bomb thing.

I have to say that I feel so unusual...never been on any kind of meds.
From what I'm reading, are these meds worth all of this? Have any tried natural alternatives that don't have all kinds of funky side effects?

I see them, at least in my case, as mind-correcting. I resisted the use for a long, long time, having overcome years of almost paralyzing depression with other tools. A med works for me now by letting me be free of the last vestiges of my illness. When I don't need it, I won't do it. I can't, however, ignore the positive changes I've experienced. Literally life-changing.

...and...there's that bomb thing...

I agree and understand the first part. Without it I would be unable to function under the depression.But unfortunately I don't have that 'bomb' thing.

Fix symptoms are what Doctor’s do; fair enough I suppose. I tend to worry with drugs intended to change moods because it is so much harder to define who a person was meant to be that way. If your leg is broken it needs to be fixed that is obvious, I suppose you could argue if you are depressed that needs fixing too but the balance is hard in terms of ensuring the thing the person was meant to be isn’t altered too much. I generally don’t have much faith in doctors so I suppose the one constant I try to hang onto is that which no human has had an undue influence in shaping. Depression can be really intolerable sometimes for me but still I wonder if the good moods I feel from time to time would be so special without the contrast of the bleak moods.

I personally don’t have the right answer for that question, I suppose it just comes down to experience and faith of what you think is best.

Generally (there's that word again), the drugs in question are not intended to alter moods. They are intended to allow the serotonin that is already swimming around in your brain to enter the cells and be of benefit, as they do in "normal" brains (Yes, I know, don't jump on me for that). What I mean is, serotonin allows you to feel good. In some brains, the serotonin won't enter the cells and allow a person to feel good. These meds allow that to happen.

Yes, bunch o' big generalizations, but that's the gist of it.

hehe the only problem is that I've already tried almost every SSRI (except Celexa) and then a few others like Wellbutrin and Remeron...and then the SNRIs...*sighs*

Cymbalta works with both serotonin and norepenephrin...some people respond better with SNRIs than they do with SSRIs.

Well that is one way of looking at it in purely mechanical terms i.e. fixing something defective. The question is this: who is to say it wasn’t always intended to be that way for reasons unknown? My front door squeaks when I open it, I have thought about fixing this with oil but then it wouldn’t be that thing familiar to me which I love. Claude Monet was short-sighted they say but if his paintings had been produced in pure definition would they have been so special and created a whole new movement? I’m not saying people should have to live with their defects but they shouldn’t be always made to feel like something needs fixing either.
