i remember a case years ago where a submissive died during play, and the defence of the Dominas concerned was that he had consented. This was in France, part of the court case revealed that they were training him for a particular woman. They had held a hanky with her scent on under his nose, and also shown him Her photo while they pleasured him. When the woman first came to see the guy he was instantly erect. So maybe scent training isnt as far fetched as it seems.

After all how many times do we smell a scent, male or female, and it reminds us of someone who was once close.

Fascinating story Polite!!! i would love to be trained to sniff my Mistress's feet when in amongst other Ladies, identifying Her who She is blindfolded!! If i fail i get punished, or just get punished cause they feel like it as of humiliation purposes...

Surely this happens without us realising. A girlfriend uses a particular scent, we sit next to someone with the same scent. Who do we think of ?  Just as certain cooking smells remind me of my late grandmother, as when i was young i spent ages in her kitchen, which was the focal point of her home.

We should never forget that the scent of an individual is something that is part of them, its a mark. In the animal world it is used to mark there territory. No matter how strong ones scent is it is still a mark to be recognized with and an essence that comes from within them. Scents have the ability and hold keys to switch on the animal instinct in the human being.

When the chemistry is "right," no training is needed.  The proper mix of phermones will be there and scent will be one of the things (consciouly or subcounsciouly) that puts your phermone "receptors" into OVERDRIVE!

If the chemistry isn't there,  or there are activities that your Mistress want's you to become "especially" receptive to, there ARE some Pavolovian type of excercises a Mistress can do to condition you to become "receptive" with certain perfumes, or oil scents, or aromatherapy.

I've been reading up on puppy training (canines, not humans) and it seems a higher mammal can be conditioned to do almost anything.

More complex behaviors are harder to train, and need more reinforcement, but it can happen.  I would suggest seeking visual training over scent, as human scent recognition is pretty weak, ESPECIALLY after multiple samples.

You said it.  It a nutshell.
And, if you apply a "specific" scent (pachouly oil, musk, certain perfumes that person already likes) to a certain pleasurable experince, I assure you, you will start getting salivation prior to feeding when the scent is applied.  Visual associations only reinforce the scent associations, but don't need to be consisitant.  *chuckle*

To continue in the vein of behavior modification and training in general (my area of knowledge is not specific to BDSM but generally, human behavior is human behavior.)  I wanted to offer that when a behavior is too complex to be learned successfully (for any number of possible reasons), breaking it down into it's most basic components is usually highly effective.  Assuming that it's being reinforced appropriately, either positively or negatively.

I'm not familiar with the concept of scent-training in humans but I'm intrigued and will do some research over the next couple of days just to satisfy my own curiosity.  If I find any valid data, I'll be sure to share it here.

I'm sure it can be done provided the human nose is powerful enough to perform the task being demanded.  Many of the techniques used to train animals, especially dogs, are the same ones used to train humans.

Pavlovian training works for all higher mammals, on down the line. It seems even single celled animals can be trained to react to a specific stimuli. But, if you read up on it, you'll find that this type of behavioral conditioning breaks down if you don't constantly reinforce it. Same thing with hypnosis. It wears off.

I have no experience with, nor first-hand knowledge of, hypnosis so I'm unable to comment on that.  I can offer though that I have seen learned behaviors successfully maintained long-term when there has been opportunity for them to be generalized outside of the initial learning environment/setting.

In those cases, do the behaviors themselves become self-reinforcing?  I'm trying to put together details and concepts and ideas but my brain is just not firing on all cylinders at nearly 2 am here, hehe.   Perhaps I'll be more coherent in the morning.
