I can't believe this, I used to correspond with someone who would know but they are gone. Media playing on a PC is just wierd. I got these albums on the drive, Time Life Sounds Of The 70s. I go to play it and Windows Media Player 9 says file format unsupported. This is not the first time, I know what I am doing so I force it to open in Mplayer, the older version, and this works for alot of files, which makes no sense actually. Well this time even that wouldn't play the files, now I got a modified sendto menu, and there is a program called Irfanview. I got it. I do not have Winamp. Irfanview has proved to be the best player I have, it sounds great too. I have an Asound card, the drivers are not XP certified or whatever, and I can hear it, on heavy drumbeats for example in the absence of other sound, it makes this puck puck sound. Alot of people don't hear it until I mention it. But I am listening to something right now that Bill gates' people can't play, and it's I Shot The Sherrif by Eric Clapton. I have this as a single in my normal directory, and I will tell you now, going through Mediaplayer I would get the puck puck so bad I would shut it down. But this sounds good. Now get this, this program was DLed off the net, and it was a long time ago. When I got XP I renamed the install directory, and then dragged in all my favorites, cookies, all that. This program was DLed about four years ago, and it was written by a guy in Serbia. This is not bullshit. You can go to Irfanview dot com still probably, but even if you can I still recommend the version I have. Newer versions might have copyright protection or something like that. I also have an image editor with a capture function that can capture anything on the screen, given my settings. I mean anything, I can capture stills from a DVD if I want, and this is on an old 433. Pretty cool what I am listening to, it's like listening to the radio about 25 years ago. Too bad Windows XP Professional Corporate Edition couldn't play it for me. One day I will have to "unsteal" it lol. I had to go back (I installed in an alternate directory so I didn't lose everything) to my old program folder. I put it in my sendto menu. So how the hell does this five year old program run through XP drivers and do it better and be able to even play the thing ? Nothing Windows has can play it, but here I am listening to it. And I got good ears, it is processing the sound better IMO, and my O means something. It has also not skipped even once as I screw around on the web, whatever. Might have to stick with it. Benny And The Jets Now, I haven't heard that in a long time. Tell you this much, when I was running Linux I just about couldn't find a file it would not play. I DLed this a long time ago. The license agreement explicitly states that you are free to distribute the few small files that are needed to run it. There is no installation. It just runs, you set the file associations if you please. Written by some guy in bumfukt Serbia somewhere, and better than Windows Media Player 9. OK. Holy shit, I forgot this was on here, Smokin' In The Boy's Room. If it were up to Bill Gates I would not be listening to this. Salute' to our brothers in Bumfukt Serbia. T
