I heard Karma as we know it today is totally different from how it was understood in the past.

Maybe if we understood what karma really is, we might understand how it applies to us, other than just shrug something off and say it is karma, good or bad.

Very much so. Today it has "New Age" connotations of energies and vibrations and all that. The word Karma means "action".

This is how I understand Karma:

I could be wrong but the idea of Karma choosing victims is kind of illogical and no different from any traditional form of vengeance?

Oh, I see no "victim", nor did I feel that I "won".

I simply enjoy the irony of it.

p.s. I recently recieved a chat request from the person in question; which I accepted. As I suspected, he assumed i was ignoring him. Of course his message being marked "deleted unread" might have given him a push toward that. (hey, I'm no angel). It provided the opotunity to explain that i was unable to respond because of being blocked.

His response; "I hate it when that happens". :) He's so silly sometimes.

Thinking about it thought it's obvious that people would expect their god to act in their favour I mean this is the excuse for all religions anyway isn't it? Pass on responsibility to someone else to fight on your behalf up in the sky somewhere.

You get what you give.[:D]

GreedyTop -> RE: Karma (3/15/2008 6:48:13 PM)

my understanding of Karma is that you reap what you sow.

FullCircle -> RE: Karma (3/15/2008 6:49:05 PM)

I did think my idea of Karma linked to carbon output was more progressive personally.[8|]

Pretty much, except not necessarily in this lifetime.

Hey Hippie. isn't energy and vibrations a form of action?
Oh keira what happened to your oldest sons father was Karma at its best.

FullCircle -> RE: Karma (3/15/2008 6:53:55 PM)

God is pretty damn unfair then because a lot of those that commit crimes are from the lower etalons of society struggling on the poverty line. They have ended up there from their bad karma. Therefore they will be there forever, in this life and the next one. What is the point of that can't people ever be given a fresh start and a level playing field?

(edit: clarification)

Aneirin -> RE: Karma (3/15/2008 6:54:37 PM)

Not one hundred percent sure about Karma, as I do not know that much about it except the fluffy bunny idea of things. I tend more to believe in cause and effect.

Perhaps a debate about what Karma is and is not would clear matters for all concerned and more besides.

Another saying perhaps, though often not very helpful is;

Shit happens.

I believe it does.

I see karma as acknowledging, it is one’s own actions that causes things to happen to them.

Yes, definitely. [:)]

Don't want to get into the semantic debate about karma, but he sure is getting his just desserts. Life is sweet, sometimes. Enjoy.

There is no logic to that because bad things seem to happen to innocent people all the time, unless these people have been mean and nasty in their previous lives. I don't like that spin on things.

There is benefit in all things.

Seeing the lesson that one can find in “bad” karma, is only half the battle.

I am afraid my friend, is reaping the rewards of not loving himself.

I believe “bad” is only definable as unbeneficial, and only when gauged against a particular goal.

Where did I go wrong, please? I do not understand.

This might count as progress.

I agree. According to my understanding of Karma it is more a matter of "positive intent to act/action" and "negative intent to act/action" rather than "bad" or "good". The way I see it, thoughts are neutral. For instance, visualizing somebody enjoying a gift is neutral. Intending to give that person a gift is a positive intent to act. I know it's a subtle distinction, but that's how I see it.

FullCircle -> RE: Karma (3/15/2008 7:41:48 PM)

Are you saying you can think of no situation where someone hasn't brought something upon themselves?

If they have then fair enough Karma works
If they haven't then why did Karma choose them?

The problem is that evil has to have an origin but with Karma it seems no one is evil and no one is innocent, so where does the chain of events start from? If I kill someone then I'll be run over by a bus fair enough but what did the person I kill do to deserve being killed? They say Karma is separate from free will so how do random acts of violence against innocent people fit into the equation because people can do bad things with free will against good people. Surely Karma would prevent people from doing bad things to good people? If there were more bad people than good people either there wouldn't be a lot of karma or a lot of freewill, pure maths can prove that.[8|]

Aneirin -> RE: Karma (3/15/2008 7:46:00 PM)

But is Karma logical?
